' NINE "Summer-Proof" Pkm of Mobflgcn Dealers Puts Cars in Sat Condition Motorists who have been study ing the calendar have happily discovered that there are many three-day holiday trips in sight for 1941. Already plans are be ing laid for these eventful times. Cars are being prepared for long journeys during these extra vaca ' tion periods, because it costs less to prepare than repair. First, comes Decoration day, which falls on Friday, May 30, giving, many folks the opportun ity to get away for Friday, Sat urday and Sunday to enjoy good : roads and natural beauties at the ; - best time of the year. '! Next is the Independence day '' period, July 4, also falling on Fri A day, and affording opportunity for ' the enjoyment of Friday,. Satur day and Sunday in the open. , Looking farther along on the calendar it is discovered that La bor day, Monday, September 1, ' will be the last day of another triple period of happy travel days a Saturday, Sunday and Mon-"- day in which it will be possible to cover a big itinerary and see many Interesting sights. But this is not all. Both the Thanksgiving and Christmas pe , riods will then be in the offing. On these two occasions both of which happen to fall on Thurs day this year there are thou sands who will stretch these holi day periods another day, thus tak ing a Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday in each instance. First: Be Safe. As a result of these many three and four-day holidays plus a heavy gain in good-road mileage it is anticipated that 1941 will be the record-breaking year for automobile travel, even beating the all-time highs of the past two years. Sutherlin SUTHERLIN, April 15. Mrs. Frank Shields of Isleton, Calif., is spending this week here visiting her sister, Mrs. Durward Rose and family. Mrs. Hazel Keith, formerly a Sutherlin resident, has purchased and is operating a restaurant in Portland. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. C. Calif.. spent the week-end at the home of his mother, Mrs. Cora Allen. Ernie Whipple of Drain was a business visitor in Sutherlin Tues day. Mr. and Mrs. . Farren Bratton and Gerald Williams left Friday night to visit friends in Williams, Calif., returning here Sunday. C. C. Fristoe, of Roseburg, vis ited and attended to business here Tuesday. Mrs. Cora Allen, Mr. and Mrs, Dee Atterbury, Miss Helen Allen, and Bert Rising motored to Cot tage Grove Sunday to visit rela tives. They were accompanied home by Mrs. Allen's mother Mrs. Mary Wichter, and a sister, Mrs. Marjorie Bates, who will visit here for a few days before continuing on to California where they will visit. Mr. and Mrs. Ward Johnson of Eugene visited friends here last week. They are former residents of Sutherlin valley. W. A. Williams suffered a sick spell at his home west of town Saturday morning necessitating the call of a doctor. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Coleman went Monday to Salem where they were called by the death of Mrs. Coleman's father. The Fair Oaks Industrial club will hold a bake sale at Culver's market Saturday, April 12. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Wahl and Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Keith made a business trip to Corvallis last Fri day. The Sutherlin Community grange met in the I. O. O. F. hall last Saturday, with Mrs. Florence Goff, the worthy master, in charge of the meeting. A boun teous potluck dinner was enjoyed during the noon hour. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Jones spent the week-end visiting at the Iccl Clark home. Mr. Jones, who has been employed at the J. & J.- tire shop in Marshfield, has been pro moted to manager of a store at Myrtle Point which the company is opening there. Art Evans of Roseburg was vis iting friends here last Saturday. Bob Finley, former superinten dent of the Bonanza mine, was here a couple of days last week visiting friends;' Mr. Finley is interested in a mine near Yreka, Calif., where he is making his home at present. ' Mrs. C. L. Carr received word last week of the death of a broth' er in Auburn, Ind. The entertainment presented by the "Young Oregonians" here at the gymnasium Monday after noon attracted a full house.
