VITAL STATISTICS Nazi Battleships Said Near U. S. Are Identified LONDON, March 21. (AP) The British Press association said today that the German warships which Prime Minister Churchill said Tuesday had "crossed to the American side of the Atlantic," were the battleships Scharnhorst and Gnelsenau, 20,000 tons each. The press association did not give the uuixe of its informa tion. Churchill told the Pilgrims, a British-American society, that not only German "battle cruisers agreed to Ihe government's de cision. Nazi Troops Barred Belgrade sources said the al liance, which would permit Ger man troops in Bulgaria to go to Italy's aid in Greece at once without fear of being struck in the flank exposed to the west, would enable Germany to move war supplies across Yugoslavia but not troops. Belgrade dispatches said Yugo slavia would become the fifth na tion to affiliate with the Rome-Berlin-Tokyo alliance at cere monies next week in Berlin or Vienna. Slavakla, Hugary, Rumania and Bulgaria, among Yugosla via's neighbors In southeast Eu rope, previously had loined the Rome Berlin?Tokyo axis. The degree to which Yugosla via's decision will facilitate Ger man action in the Balkans, pos sibly against Greece to holster tHe faltering Italians, was uncer tain in the absence of details ot the agreement that has . been readied. But a responsible gov ernment leader said it would pro vide economic and "semi-mill-tarv" aid to the reich. The crown council approved the program last night and the cabinet later voted for It, 13 to four, after a bitter wrangle. Pictures of President Roose velt and British Prime Minister Churchill were displayed prom inently in public places alongside portraits of national heroes In many towns, as Serb resentment apparently mounted against the government's decision.
