The Roseburg team consisting of Deb Day, B. Beaty, J. Baker, J. Red barn and J. Ralston, rolled games of 900, 97G and 976 on the local alleys for a total of 2912 pins, in cluding handicap, nosing out Santa Rosa, Calif., by eight pins. Thirteen Oregon and California teams participated and telegraph ed scores to San Francisco where the results were announced. A handsome trophy now is on dis play at San Fiancisco and is soon to be sent to Roseburg for dis play at the Hotel Valley for the ensuing year. The trophy will be come the permanent property of a team winning it for three suc cessive years. ; Southern Pacific Sets 1 Big Sum for Equipment 1 A 520,000,000 expenditure for new locomotives and freight cars has just been announced by A. D. McDonald, president of the Southern Pacific company. ,This outlay, McDonald pointed out, is in addition to the pur chase of 40 diesel electric switch ing engines, at a cost of $2,900, 000, since the first of the year. The current expansion pro gram includes orders for 40 of Southern Pacific's unique cab ahead steam locomotives, among the heaviest and most powerful in the world, and for 10 steam streamlined locomotives of the famous Daylight type, at a total cost of about $11,000,000. It also provides for approximately 2500 freight ears costing about 59,000, 000. Teachers Employed by Myrtle Creek District MYRTLE CREEK. March 18.
