Vernon Green received a painful knee injury during the basket ball game at Camas Valley on Friday which necessitated treat ment nt Mercy hospital and has kept him confined to his home during the week following. George Marsh and Clare Mere dith have enrolled in the sheet metal and mechanics courses of fered in Roseburg on school night as a pail of the national defense program. Leslie Buell returned to llalsey Sunday after spending the week end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Buell. Due to the death of Mrs. Gar borien's mother on Thursday, Rev. and Mrs. Garboden were un able to conduct the local church service on Sunday evening and the pulpit was filled by Mr. Cor ley of Dillard, who brought a fine message in sermon and special songs. Maiy Esther Munger, small daughter of Mr. and Mis. Walter Munger, who has been seriously ill for some time with Influenza and complications, was taken to Roseburg on Wednesday for spc ! cial treatment. During the afternoon Mr. and Mrs. Smith called at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Marsh. Harold White of Roseburg en tertained the valley residents on Sunday afternoon by stunt flying with his small plane. The Women's Society of Chris tian Service will meet on Tues day, Feb. 5, at the home of Mrs. John Rodley. Mrs. Arthur Marsh and Mis. A. M. Robinson, who have charge of the Red Cross sewing, report that they have materials on hand to make lay ettes, men's pajamas and knitted goods and trust that there will bo a good attendance to assist with the sewing. Mrs. Doss, who served lovely re freshments at the end of the meeting. The next meeting Is to be held at the home of Mrs. Geo. Casebeer. Mrs. A. Agee, Clinton and Cliff Agee went to Portland Sunday. The Ladies Aid held their re gular meeting Wednesday after noon with Mrs. Phil Strader, Mrs. Helen Glenn and Mrs. O. DeBernardi as hostesses at the home of Mis. Strader. Miss Susie Kerns and her mother, Mrs.,W.. L. Ingram of Grants' Pass, visited with the hit ter's sister, Mrs. F. S. Blakely at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Casebeer. Mr. Dyslnger, teacher of Ihe Junior high school, has been very 111 for several days and has been confined to his home. Kellcy visited relatives and attended a show in Myrtle Creek Wednesday. Bonnie Olllvant of Olalla visit ed school Wednesday and Thurs day. She stayed with Geneva Huntley Wednesday night. Mr. and Mrs. Wilmer White have returned from Nebraska. They report very cold weather and a lot of snow there. Mr. and Mrs. Lynch and fam ily have returned to the Harm-son-Wakefleld mill settlement. Mr. Lynch drove truck for the lumber company last year and will start work again its soon as the mill starts sawing. Neal Brown is yarding piling with his team. Mr. and Mrs. Escol Johnson of;,.,- , ,,, ti, Roseburg were in the valley Sun day. Mrs. Johnson visited friends while Mr. Johnson, who is a pil ing contractor, attended to busi ness matters. Mrs. Johnson has since gone to Oklahoma (or her mother, who is In very poor health. The Lookingglass volleyball and basketball teams played the Camas teams on the Camas floor Friday night. Camas won both games although the Lookingglass learns both played well. The next conference game for Camas is with Glide at Glide. H. C. Kellcy spent Saturday in Eugene. Vina Baldwin came home from the school for the blind last week and will not attend any more this year. I he scout court of honor Thurs day evening was well attended by parents of the scouts. The boys all passed their tests very well and received their second class pins a few days later. The scouts and several of the parents arc planning to attend the scout rally In Koseburg Tuesday evening, Keb. 11. Victor 1 Vim is hauling lumber from the Stanwood-Brinn lumber mill in the extreme north end of the valley. He hauls part of the lime to Glendale and part to the Ford mill In Roseburg. Mi-s. Wesley Clark returned to her home In Sutherlin Thursday. She had been doing the house work for her sister-in-law, Mrs. Hen Buzzard, for the past three weeks. Claude Church is driving truck for C. W. Perry, hauling gravel from the plant at Shady Point to the county road north from the Harmson-Wakedeld mill to a short distance above Henry El pel's. Several other coun ty trucks are hauling besides the one driven by Claude Church. Mr. Perry Is checking gravel. Harm- son and Wakefield already have fallers and buckers on the tract of timber and will begin trucking logs to the mill as soon as the road is gravelled. Glendole GLENDALE, Feb. 5. Canyonville Couple Home From Three Months' Trip CANYONVILLE, Feb. 5. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Weaver have re turned to their home here follow ing a three months tour by train through eastern and southern states. They travelled the north ern route from Seattle to St. Paul and attended the international livestock show at Chicago. They also took much pleasure while in Chicago by attending the barn dance radio broadcast program. At Elkhart, Ind., they visited the factory in which Conn musical Instruments are made and also in spected the Dr. Miles laboratories. 1 hey spent several weeks visit ing relatives of Mr. Weaver In Indiana, Ohio and Kansas and re turned by the southern route stopping at Redding, Calif., for a visit with a cousin, John Maloney, former Canyonville resident. They report varied weather on their trip, encountering tempera tures as low as ten below zero in Chicago during their stay there. Weather in the southern states was warm and balmy. They were greatly impressed by the rapid ex pansion in industrial centers due to the national defense program. Kiwanis Hears Dr. Wire On Subject of Painting ' The Roseburg Kiwanis club at Us regular Tuesday luncheon meeting heard a most interesting address yesterday by the Rev. M. T. Wire, who spoke on the sub ject of landscape painting and ex hibited a number of his own pic tures. The pictures principally were Oregon scenes. E. A.
