ADD CAMPFIRE activities I GROUPS HOLD I SKATING PARTY Roseburg Camp Fire girls nnd their Invited guests enjoyed a skating party at the Winchester skating rink Friday evening, Jan uary 24 with members of the Roseburg Guardian's council In rharge of arrangements. Over 51 attended the party which opened at 7:30 o'clock. Other social events are being arranged for the Camp Fire girls by the coun cil and will be announced at a later date. MISSIONARY EXECUTIVE BOARD TO HOLD MEETING The executive board of the Missionary society to the Presby terian church will hold a busi ness meeting at two o'clock next Wednesday at the home of the president, Mrs. W. M. Campbell, on South Main street, Instead of at the Fred Fisher home as pre viously planned. New officers elected included: president, Corinne Harpham; vice-president, Robert Morris; secretary-treasurer, Gladys Hart, and booster chairman, Marjorie Ott. Charles Sciiumai.n, picsi dent of the Memorial Union and Booster clubs, spoke at the meet ing and told of the successful picnic which was held at Dia mond lake last sumrtier. Several suggestions were made toward plans for boosting Oregon State college during the spring vacation. American Legion Auxiliary Activities By MRS. Spotlighting the week's activi ties of Umpqua unit will be the large benefit bridge party which will be held Friday evening, Feb. ruary 7, at eight o'clock at the K. of P. hall. Mrs. J. A. Harding, chairman of the finance commit tee, has announced the following assistants: Mrs. George Wharton and Mrs. L. W. Josse, joint chair men, aided by Mrs. Earl Ullrich, Mrs. J. M. Judd, Mrs. H. T. Han sen, Mrs. H. C. Church, Mrs. Broadway, Mrs. Clair K. Allen, Mrs. Guy Cordon, Mrs. E. F. Tandy, Mrs. C. B. Wade, Miss Pearl Jones, Mrs. Ward Cum mings, Mrs. L. L. Wimberly and Mrs. V. J. Micelli. Mrs. Harding has announced that proceeds from the party will be used to further the child welfare program of the American Legion and its auxil iary, for hospital aid and com munity service. Mrs. Harding has asked that those wishing to make reservations for the party call Mrs. Broadway at 12-Y or Mrs. Josse at 357-R. . Everyone who attended the in stallation of the Drain post and unit last Saturday night, reports a gorgeous time. It seems that the Drain friends did the thing up in magnificent style topped off by refreshments that are still the talk of the Roseburg visitors. Mrs. Vivian Meiring, of Medford, district president, presented the charter to the Drain unit and Mrs. Laura Goode, department president, served as installing of ficer. Guiding the destinies of the Drain unit for the ensuing year will be president, Marguerite La Grander; vice-president, Lena Bossen; secretary, Jessie Porter; treasurer, Veva Olson; historian, Evea Letson; chaplain, Kathryn Fenley. Our best wishes go with them. Our peppy little juniors are en tertaining at a party for all eli gible members on Monday night in the chapter rooms at the arm ory. To be a member of the Amer ican Legion auxiliary is a badge of honor and these youngsters are taking their obligations with proper seriousness and dignity. For Monday evening, dignity will be soft-pedalled and there will he plenty of ice cream and cake for all. Tuesday night at 5:30, Mrs. Carl Wimberly, Americanization chairman, is presenting Rev. Perry Smith, in a patriotic ad dress over KRNR. "Perry," who has served repeatedly as chaplain of Ump'qua post, always leaves his listeners with something to cogitate over, and the address Tuesday evening, we understand, comes under the heading of extra special. Mrs. Claude Baker, unit presi dent, is urging all auxiliary and Legion members to attend the regular meeting Tuesday night at eight o'clock both to participate In the business sessions and the social hour which will be enjoyed later by both groups. Plans to visit Days Creek, where the post and unit have many valuable members, on the 18th will be made at this meeting. All units of the American, Le gion auxiliary are being urged by Mrs. Louis Lcmstra, national president, to join the first aid classes being conducted over the United States by the Red Cross. A class is being formed in Rose burg next Wednesday night and all interested persons are being urged by the auxiliary to partici pate. It is felt hy our organization that this is one of the potent ave nues to adequate national de fense. The monthly card party given by the auxiliary at the veterans' facility Wednesday night was an enormous success. Every table was taken there were lots of prizes and assorted candles with plenty of gumdrops for re freshments. We were proud to be at a table where a prize was awarded but not to us. Miss Ha Laubach and Dorothy Norton acted as hostesses for the club members and guests. Mrs. G. V. Wlmberlv gave a comprehensive talk on "The Home as an Expres sion of Beauty." She showed how the home was a reflection of the owner's personality nnd good taste. This was revealed in the furnishings, the arrangement, the atmosphere of hospitality, and even in the garden. The other guest sneaker for the evenlne was Marshall Pengra who snoke on the "Employer and the Emnlovec." He emphasized the qualities which an employer hones to find In the employee and the importance of the employee to any organization.
