At a meeting of the library board, held recently Mrs. Chad Daugherty was elected chairman and Mrs. Leona Merk, librarian, secretary and treasurer. Other members of the board are Mrs. B. F. Rob erts, Mrs. Sam Walkinshaw, Mrs. Edgar Richards, Mrs. Elmer Daugherty, Mrs. Gertrude Stoute, Mrs. Ervln Rice and Mrs. Hugh Warner. FULLERTON P.-T. A. INVITES DADS TO ATTEND MEETING Fullcrton P.-T. A. held a busi ness meeting Monday at which time plans were made for the an nual Dad's night meeting to be held next Monday evening, Janu ary 13th, at 7:30 o'clock at the school house. B. B. Irving will have charge of the program, which will include quartet numbers by the members of the Roseburg Men's Glee club, talk and slides on "Visual Educa tion" by R. R. Brand, followed by a popcorn sale and refreshments. Mrs. Frank Coen is acting as chairman of the refreshment com mittee and Is being assisted by Mrs. Paul Holwcg and Mrs. C. E. Jump. Mrs. P. O. Acklcy is president of the P.-T. A. and has appointed Mrs. James Bcwloy as new pub licity chairman. All Dads of Ful lerton school children are being especially requested to attend next Monday evening's meeting. MELROSE GRANGE HAS INTERESTING POTLUCK SUPPER MEETING TUESDAY Melrose grange held a very in teresting potluck supper and meeting Monday evening with seventy-five In attendance. Alice Goff presided over the meeting, which opened with the officers seating drill. Mrs. Edythe Florence Kelley was elected musician; Charlene Stark was installed as Ceres; T. B. Buscnbark was installed as a member of the executive commit tee. It was decided by vote to hold a pest contest within the grange between the YGA and the older grange members. Ray Doerner, agriculture com mittee member, gave a talk on that subject and gave a reading on the literary program, which was followed by a song by the quartet and group singing. SHUTTER BUGS ENJOY MEETING WEDNESDAY The Roseburg Shutter Bug club met Wednesday evening at the chamber of commerce office with Frank Coen, new president. In charge. Plans were outlined for future activities of the club. Much in terest in the club work is being shown by the members. FEDERAL EMPLOYEES TO MEET FRIDAY NIGHT There will be a meeting of lo cal No. 459 of the National Fed eral Employees tonight, January 10, at eight o'clock at the home of Mrs. Jean Rice on 1212 Cha tham street. All members are urged to be present as plans will be outlined for the state conven tion to be held In May and var ious committees for the year will be named. FAMILY DINNER IS ENJOYED YONCALLA, Jan. 10. Mrs. Lydwig of Elkhead entertained at a family dinner at her home recently having as her guests Paul Ludwig of Portland. Mr. and Mrs. Dick Ludwig of Roseburg, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Reeves and son of Powers. CLASS PLAY TO BE PRESENTED MONDAY YONCALLA. Jan. 10. Due to the poor attendance at the show ing of the student body play "Only Sally Ann," the play will be given again Monday evening, January 13. Freezing weather and the flu made a large group of patrons of the high school stay home, so they will be given an other opportunity to. see this comedy. . PUBLIC INVITED TO ENJOY BENEFIT PLAY NEXT MONDAY NIGHT St. George's Episcopal Guild has invited the public to enjoy the Roseburg Woman's club play, "The Kleptomaniac," to be pre sented as a benefit affair for the guild next Monday evening at 8 o clock at the parish hall on i.ast Cass street. The play, under the direction of Mrs. John H. Robinson, was re cently presented by the Roseburg Woman s club and proved so suc cessful that a repeat perform ance will be given Monday night as a benefit for the Episcopal Guild. Mrs. Robinson heads the com edy cast and is supported by Mrs. Edward G. Kohlhagen, Mrs. W. M. Campbell, Mrs. John M. Raish, Mrs. Harold Hoyt and Mrs. Ad rian Bowen, with Mrs. T. G. Wat son taking the character part of "Miss Evans," in the absence or Miss Irene Houser, who is out of town. Mrs. Watson assisted the players in the first performance by acting as prompter. Following the presentation of the play, a social hour will be en joyed and refreshments will be served. FAREWELL PARTY GIVEN DALY FAMILIES MYRTLE CREEK, Jan. 10. A number of friends met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. N. G. Buell at Myrtle Creek New Year's eve for a farewell party In honor of the Daly families, who are mov ing to Ashland. Early in the eve ning a delightful dinner was served to the honor guests, Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Dalv and daughter, Bettie; Mr. and Mrs. Elton Daly and daughter, Carmella, and Mr. and Mrs. Sheldon Daly and sons, Don and Gene, Mr. and Mrs. Ly man Daly and Kenneth Daly were not able to be present. Oth ers gathered at the tables were Mrs. B. A. Naas, Mrs. Emma Wood, Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Skin ner, Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Wood, Miss Wanda Skinner, Gavlord and Leonard Skinner, Elbert Nans and Mr. and Mrs. N. G. Buell. Following the dinner a number of games were played until the hour of twelve when it was time to welcome the New Year of 1911. Shortly after midnight Mrs. R. L. Skinner was surprised when she was presented with a birthday cake, Jan. 1st being her birthday. The party was brought to a close by everyone singing "Blessed Bo the Tie" and "God Be With You Till We Meet Again." The Dalvs will be greatly miss ed from this community where they have made many friends during the years they have re sided here. FAMILY REUNION IS ENJOYED YONCALLA. Jan. 10. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Turpin entertained at a Wallace family reunion at their home in Scotts valley last week, having as their guests Mr. and Mrs. Alpha Newby of Willa mina, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Juntti of Eugene, Mrs. Mattie Case of Newport, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Wal lace, Wallace and Kay Turpin of Yoncalla. Mrs. Josephine Lynch of Edenbower Passes Away Mrs. Josephine Lynch, 72, well known resident of Edenbower, died at her home today following a prolonged period of illness. She was born at Jellieo, Tennessee, April 26, 1808, and was married to William H. Lynch at La Fol lette, Tennessee, in 1899. Mr. Lynch died at Longvlew, Wash ington, several years ago. For the past three years Mrs. Lynch had made her home near Roseburg. She was very active in social and welfare work and serv ed for sixteen years as field worker for the Southern Baptist church in the Walnut, Smokey, Blue Ridge and Cumberland mountains. She was a member of the Baptist church and of the Spanish-American War eVterans auxiliary. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Adam (Orpha E.) Flurry and Mrs. George (Grace A.) Trap alls, both of Roseburg, and Mrs. Hurshel (Gladys) Sims of Marsh field, Oregon. She Is also surviv ed by four grandchildren. Herchcr, 47, world war veteran, died at the veterans hospital last night following a six months' illness. Although he had been in poor health for con siderable time, death came sud denly from a heart ailment. Born at Do Soto, Missouri, Sept. 27, 1893, he had .resided in Douglas county for 37 years. He was a member of the Ma sonic and Eastern Star orders and the Methodist church. Surviving are his wife, Flor ence Williams Hercher; two sons, Terry and Robert; his mother, Mrs. Robert A. Hercher, Rose burg; two sisters, Mrs. Frank Burr, Roseburg, and Mrs. Ken neth LaVloletto, Pendleton, and two brothers. Lawrence Hercher, Dillard, and Chester Hercher, Roseburg. Funeral services will be held at the Roseburg Undertaking com pany chapel at 2 o. m. Saturday, Rev. Raynor Smith of Salem, for merly of Roseburg, officiating. The Masonic lodge will close the services at the chapel. Burial will be in Civil Bend cemetery.
