There is something reassuring
about that. It Is a reminder that
we have peace, good food and
peaceful work to do, for the
chamber of commerce Is a work
ing organization.
According to the advance no
lice of the meeting, a speaker
of outstanding ability, lr. Victor
P. Morris, dean of the school of
business administration at the
University of Orrgon, will make
the address of the evening. But
In addition to the speaker there
will be a musical program of lo
cal origin.

As Ihe regular annual report
will show, the Roseburg cham
ber of commerce Is concluding
a year of hard and effective
work. We will not recite here
the accomplishments, leaving
that to the formal report itself,
but we can say that there has
been done much valuable work
of a lasting nature.
Muring the 12 months jusl
ahead the chamber of commerce
f;ices not only the usu.il tasks ol
such an organization but it will
have two additional problems lo
struggle with. First and tore-
most, the nallonal defense and
wartime activities will tend lo
more and more take the time
and attention of the organisa
tion. We know about that, for It
was the same during the pre
vious world war. On top of that,
indications point to an expand
ing Industrial activity here.
Whether this activity material
izes or not the chamlier of com
merce will be very busy doing
what it can lo help it come aljut,
and rendering service to such
new eiileriirlses as may lie es
tablished as well as lo those In '"I- Douglas.

buckled down Monday to prac
tice for three home conference

These games, in order, include

The Indians have won six out
of seven of their preseason
clashes, heating Drain, 30 to 10;
Roosevelt high of Portland, 26
to 22; Springfield, 50 to 25; alum
ni, 30 to 20; Crescent City, 35 to
18; Chlco, 20 to 18. The lone de
feat was a 34 to 18 shellacking
at Klamath , Falls. The chief
weakness shown by the; Indians
or late has been in converting
free throws, making only two
