Dlxonvdlc. leit, was given hearty congratula tions by at. H. Shook, judge of the dressed show division at Oakland. The bird exhibited by Mr. Rone-brake was declared by Judge Shook to be the finest turkey he had ever seen, . Domestic Turkeys of U. S. Generous .- the world's largest turkey show is now oteu at Oakland in Oregon. To he sure, if Senor Fernandez hadn't shipped those tame Mexican tur keys back to Spain, somebody else would have done so very present lybut the historic fact is that l-'rancisco was first. Thus the Oakland turkey show, you may say, is in direct descent from the connuistador's project, even as I ho domestic turkey of our times is similarly derived. Hut it may he doubted, we say with war ranted complacency, that the orig inal turkeys of Yucatan were equal in excellence to tltose handsome birds that now ore looking wor l ifil in Hie Oregon turkey center. It Is our regional claim that these are veritably the world's finest turkeys, nor Is this mere Idle press agontiy. l-'raneisco Fernnndi-z was a smart don anil a great credit to Philip II of Spain, for he foresaw all this, albeit dimly, four centuries and and more auo. Hut It. wasn't ! until ibe borrowed bird returned to the western world that the tur key really went, as wo say, to .town. It ought to he a good turkey year lor those that have turkeys. The blizzard Hint struck savagely at the middle west shortly before Thunl;sgiiug, day destroyed an es timated 4.00U.UUO birds. In Ne braska. Iowa and Minnesota there were many growers who lost their flocks, and these of several thou sand or more, to the last bird. Our Oregon turkey growers run no such i gantlet as this, for hereabouts the jcllnuito is kind to turkeys. If the ! poults can he reared beyond In fancy, and the tricky time when wet feet may wipe out the hatches overnight, all is well with the flock, livery Oregon motorist has seen the visual evidences of an expand ing Industry, in the great flocks of tin keys that now are being reared annually where not long ago a lew birds were Hie season's output. Almost It Is a major Industry, and small wonder. Americans have ceased to think of the tnrltev as a I bird traditionally reserved for two noimays. thanksgiving nnd Christ inas, and now consider it to be convenient for any season. And they are smoking it an .epicurean dream foinn true and running it also. In all likelihood the great flirl.'OV ulwttf ,, l.i..,r l.l.l ,t.,b. j land Is the forerunner of bigger ami better shows to come. Have MONIAC Beauty...
