(AP) Tho first year's experience under the federal aid to wildlife restora tion act has convinced those ad ministering tho program that Hb future operation will Have "far reaching orreets" on the nation's wildlife resources. At llu end of tho last fiscal year, the biological survey roporls, Oregon was one of 43 states al ready eligible for participation in the now program. Ira N. Oabfieison, survey chief, said Hint 37 states had suggested rt total of 87 nrojoela to the survey by the year end and that two of these wore proposed by tiregon. One provides fur tho transplant ing of heavers rrom ovorpopuluted to uudnrpnpulutod areas and would be statewide In scope. . The other proposes the restoration of sage grouse habitat In southeastern Oregon. Officials estimated the cost of tho projects us 14,890 and $5,300, respectively. Federal aid to wildlife restora tion was authorized hy the Pltt-mun-ltnhcrtson act and became ef fective July 1, 1038, outsot or tho last fiscal period, with an initial appropriation of SI ,000,(100. The act authorises annual approprla. tlons not exceeding the excise tax collections on sporting arms and ammunition and provides for their apportionment among the states on a basis of area and number of hunt ing license holders.
