DRAIN SCOUT PATROL WINS SECOND PRIZE DKAIN, Oi l. 0 Drain Boy Scout patrol lenders won 2nd prize at the troop leaders training institute, at iane uieownx, went. win, Oct. 1st and 2nd, and tied for 2nd prize in camping competition, against 11 troops from the Wlllaniet coun cil, which included troops from Oorvullis to Jtoscburg and west to the const, Patrol leaders from euch troop were organized as one patrol ami camped in one cabin. Compe tition, was based on camp organi zation, cleanliness, participation in institute events and scouting in general. The patrol selected Jim Ili-idger as their name. Officers of the patrol were: Patrol leader, Grunt Oiilug; quartermaster, John Hokum; fond and hlkeinaster, Don- it id I ielset li ; scribe, John Sneed ; yell leader, Jewis Sturgess of Cot tage Grove. DRAIN FIRE VICTIM REPORTED ON MEND Ernest Kofoed, oil company em ployee, who recently suffered cri tical burns in a fire which destroy ed Maple row camp grounds at Drain, is reported to he making very satisfactory recovery ai Mercy hospital. Mr. Kofoed was injured when two cans of gasoline which he was carrying were sud denly Ignited through some un known cause. He was badly burned about the legs and arms und for a time was in a critical condition, lie is now out of dan ger, hownver, and is reported to be resting comfortably. Dr. Roach, who recently arrived in Oregon from Texas, is a graduate of University of Ore gon, and Is a member of a family prominently identified with the work of the Presbyterian church in Oregon for many years. He has been residing lor several years In Texas, where he was graduated from Dallas Theological seminary, in which he later was employed as an instructor for a period of five years. Oct. 7 (AP) A statement opposing the candidacy of Willis K. Mahoney, ex-mayor of Klamath Falls, for the U. S. senate has been adopted by the Klamath Ministerial associa tion and sent out to churchmen in all parts of the state, it became known here after general release of the statement. The ministers declared that Ma honey's administration as mayor "did not exemplify the highest ideas of public and official life and was not conductive to the welfare of our city and the citizens there of. "Hence," the statement said, "we are of the opinion that the state of Oregon would not be best serviced by the election .of Willis E. Mahoney to the Benate of the United -States." Mahoney was not in the city to day, and a friend here said he didn't know whether the senate candidate would choose to reply to the ministers a Uttom en t or ignore it. ROBOT O. K. One such counter is located just south of Woodburn on the east side Pacific highway, and another is on the same highway in southern Oregon. About 3u0 such counters have been Installed in 43 states. The device operates with two beams of infra red light, parallel and 30 inches apart, projected across the highway from a light hox to the "eye" of the counting de- vice. The counter operates only when both beams are interrupted, as by a passing car.
