To every gal. of waler use 1 o salt. Let stand in brine 7 day3. Pour off brino and cover vmu uoll-Ine- water. Let stand 24 hrs. and drain. Take 1 T of powdered alum for each gal. boiling water. Split cucumbers almost to stem or cut into, chunks, then pour the boiling alum water over them and let stand 24 hrs. Drain, and put hoil inc water over again and let Bland 24 hrs. Drain. 3 qts vinegar: (J c sugar; pickling spices. Heat all to gether and pour over pickles. Let stand 24 hrs. Pour off vinesar and add 1 c sugar. Bring to boil and pour over pickles. Replace In jar and cover with sweet vinegar made as follows, using the came vinegar: 1H gal. vinegar: 15 lbs. sugar: 4 T pickling snires. Mix and bring to a boll. Cool.
