as a complete Hurprlso to their
many friends is the marriage of
.Miss Heasie Wuhm, daughter of
Mrs. Ruby Norton of Portland and
granddaughter of Tom Westfall, of
Yoncalla. and Jack Mitchell of
Drain. Tho wedding took place in
Vancouver, Wash., Sunday, April
18. Mr. and Mm. Mitchell will re
main In Yoncalla until June, when
they will leave for the east, where
Mr. Mitchell will be affiliated with
his father in the garage business.
At present Mr. Mitchell 1b employ
ed In Drain. Mrs. Mitchell Is a
popular Yoncalla girl, having lived
here the moat of her life, attend
ing both grade ami high schools.
For the last year Bhe has been
employed as clerk in the E. T.
SUmseth grocery store. Airs. Sten
seth will be hostess to a miscellun
ous shower for Mrs. Mitchell at her
home, Thursday afternoon, to which
all friends of the bride are In

ENJOYABLE MEETING

were discussed. Plans were laid
for the program for the coming
year. A most delicious lunch was

DRESSING
MRS. E. R ESTELLE, Roseburg.
Cook medium size pared pota
toes in a snueepnn until about half
done. Drain and lav in an oiled
baking nan. Sprinkle with salt,
then with flour, and brush over
onch potato with an oiled brush.
Put Into a quick oven and bnko un
til partly browned; then fill In be
tween the potatops with dressing,
and finish baking together. Serve
with brown gravy.
POTATO CAKES
DONNA RROWN KERNIN
Roseburg, Ore.
6 medium potatoes; 1 c hot milk;
ocps. well beaten; 1 onion. Peel
and crate the potatoes and permit
the liquor to drain off. Allow It to
rest over night or until the starch
of caino bhs been formed. Pour tho
water off. ndd boiling milk, stirring
slowly, while adding to water you
just poured orf. Add this dark
milky Folutfon to the grated pota
toes, stirring all the time. Add eggs
well beaten, prated onion and salt
to taste. Fry to a golden brown (n
a pan In hot fat Omit the onion if
preferred. Air turns the potatoes
dark, making the cakes a novelty.
This recipe was very popular in
the '90s.
