(AP) Mrs. Ruth May Fox at the threshold of 83, says she's no prude but she can't abide bare backs and bare legs (or girls. As "guardian" of nearly 70,000 , young women, she said, she con siders such immodesty "one of the greatest temptations for eviL" . Mrs. Fox, who crossed the plains by ox team when she was 12, is president of the Young Women's Mutual Improvement association, a Latter Day Saints church group of 69,000 members. She will cele v brate her S3rd birthday Monday, i "I don't think the young men care to see girls wearing backless drosses either," asserted the gray haired mother of 12 children, 10 of whom are still living. "And, though 1 don't want to Seem prudish, I think girls should refrain also from beer-drinking and smoking. , i "Smoking particularly is a filthy habit. If it were just a passing fancy . . . but once young women Indulge themselves they become addicted to the habit." Believes in Youth. Mrs. Fox admitted that girls to day are stronger-wiiled than they used to be "when they want some thing they want it." But she quick ly denied she believed the younger generation is going to the dogs. "1 think we have the finest lot of young people today the world ever knew," she insisted. She suggested, for the happiness of young people, temperance, the - right mental attitude and not too much advice from their eiders. "Friends and relatives have too jhany 'don'ts they're the onus i who make you feel old," she said. . And of all the evils, she added, the worst are "babying" the elder ly and taking their work away trom them. . "1 don't know what these old folks are going to do when they are placed on pensions," Bhe mused. - ....... . BOY SHOT IN LEG FAILS TO SURVIVE BAKER, Ore., Nov. 12. (AP) Phillip Henry Strong of Baker, 17, died Wednesday in a local hospital as a result of an injury sustained May 26 when he wus accidentally shot in the log by a companion with a .22 culibro pistol. The youth, a pupil in the Tinker junior high - school last year, fs survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Strong, three sisters and two brothers. REV. J.
