(AP) The Oregon state hoard of health, in commenting on recent Inquiries concerning in ran 1 1 in par alysis, said today Oregon had ex perienced no epidemic of the dis ease since 1927 and that "it would i seem . . . that the chances for In " fection in Oregon are less than in any other state." In 1927, a total of 390 cases re sulted in 86 deaths. Last year, 52 cases led to 19 deaths the Mer est mortality since 1928. Thus far in 1936, 29 cases and 6 deaths have been reported. Two fatalities oc curred in Portland and one each in Klamath, Lane, Marion and Washington counties. The health hoard, in reporting that "the number of cases .occur ring annually in Oregon Is less per capita than- in anv other western mate if not the United States," said the statistics were issued to day "in order that there should be no unnecessary alarm." Mulkey at Hed Hill, when their daughter, Miriam, became the bride of John Ilogo Hickman. Rev. Mr. Meyers, of Drain, per formed the ceremony in the prea ence of relatives, of tho couple. Idell Hickman and Merle Mulkey attended the couple. The bride was very attractive in an afternoon frock of royal blue silk and she carried ft show er bouquet of fall blossoms and ferns. The rooms were decorat ed in colorful autumn leaves and fall flowers. Those present included Mr. and Mrs. E. K. Mulkey and son, Merle, Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Hlckmnn. par ents of the bridegroom, and daugh ter, Idell. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Moore and daughter, of Clearwa ter, Nebr., Mr. and Mrs. O. M. Cooley and children, of Yoncalla, and Clarence Wilson, of Yoncalla. Mrs. Moore and Mrs. Cooley are sisters of the bridegroom. The wedding dinner was served at the Mulkey home at the close of the marriage ceremony, after which Mr. and Mrs. Hickman left for Dallas, Ore., to make their home and where Mr. Hickman Is employed. MRS. DON RRED IS HONORED AT SHOWER OAKLAND. Oct. 21 Mrs. Don Reed, a recent bride, vas the hon ored guest at a miscellaneous shower for which Mrs. A. R. Heed was hostess on Thursday afternoon at her home. The pleasant after noon hours were spent in visiting and viewing the manv useful and nretty gifts presented to Mrs. Heed. Late in the afternoon at one long table centered with a bouquet of beautiful pink rosebuds the guests were served dainty refresh ments bv the hostess, assisted by her daughter-in-law, Mrs. George Reed of Roseburg. LARGE MEETING OF TOWNSEND CLUB HELD OAKLAND. Oct. 21 A large crowd attended a' very Interesting meeting of the Ofkland Townsend club held here Wednesday even ing, October 14. Walter Fisher, Mavor C. W. Clark and J. V. Long of Roseburg gave short talks, also Hill Garner and Mr. Thiol of Yon calla. Several musical numbers were furbished by Shorty Farrell, Neil Settle and Mr. Moore of Cam as Valley. Will Cain sang a solo, accompanied by Mr. Farrell on the guitar, which caused such a loud and long applause he came back with a very, humorous reading. All numbers were very much enjoyed. At the close of the meeting a neat sum was realized from the sale of pie and coffee. The next meet ing will be held October 28. ft ft ft BIBLE CLASS GIVES DELIGHTFUL PARTY MYRTLE CREEK, Oct, 21 The Loyal Women's Bible class of the Christian church entertained the Loyal Berean class last Friday night In the basement of the church, as a result of coming out losers in a contest between the two classes during the summer months. The Senior Men's class was Invited also and all were hidden to come costumed as school children. Re freshments were carried in paper bags and some of the younger pupils carried dolls and other toys. Cover with cold water, bring slowly to the boiling point, tnen add 1 whole onion, few stalks of celery, and two slices of lemon and a bay leaf. Let all this simmer four or more hours. Strain and remove fat. Add 1 can (No. 2) okra, can puree tomatoes, season ing. ;Add the scraps of turkev meat cut in small pieces, and slice or two of boiled ham cut also into small pieces. Then thicken slight ly.
