She was graduated from Roseburg high school In the class of 1928 and later studied voice a year in New York, after which she attended Oregon States college and continued her voice education un der Paul Petri. For the past year, she has been making her home in Portland.. Mr. and Mrs. Jones came to Roseburg Sunday to visit at the McClintock home until yesterday, when they returned to Portland. MRS. Anyone having cars for trans portation and those desiring trans portation to the park have been asked to meet at two o'clock Sun day afternoon at the Grand hotel. El Canyonvflle residents are mak ing preparations for the opening of the new Community hall there with a public dance to be held Saturday, Aug. 1. The hull, built to accommo date civic activities, Is nearing completion, and is now ready for general use. Started as-a project by the South Umpqua Rod and Gun club, the building was completed as a WPA project, and is designed to meet the needs for the entire .South Douglas district. Materials were furnished by pub lic donations and funds raised through community activities, and labor was provided by the WPA. The exterior Is of log construc tion, while the interior is sealed In attractive manner. The building provides a spacious auditorium, large enough to seat more than 1500 people, and providing space for dances, sports events, com munity gatherings, shows, etc. In addition there Is a club room, to gether with a dining room and kitchen. Workmen have completed the In terior finishing and have set floors and windows in nil parts of the building except the clubroom, which will be finished this wetk, according to present plans. Tickets are being sold through out the soil t hern part of the coun ty for the forthcoming opening dance, for which music will be fur nished by the Canyonville Jthyth men. PROBE KEPT OPEN WASHINGTON, July 28. (AP) Justice Oscur Luhring ot the District of Columbia federal "court refused toduy to issue a tempor ary order forbidding the securi ties and exchange commission to investigate Investment trusts. The order refused by the dis trict court, was asked by Frederick T. Fisher, a stockholder in the Kqulty corporation, an investment trust. He sought to prevent the com mission from subpoenaing him ns a witness In the fuvestigaton and from examining the papers of the corporation. Justice Luhring set a hearlne for August 5, at which attorneys for Usher will ask a. temporary injunction to hold up the investi gation. David Schenker, attorney for the securities commission, attacked Usher's request, for a restraining order as "a subterfuge and a trick to delay the hearing." Schenker told the court that Fisher owned "only two shares of stock, which are now worth $4." "Msher Is bringing this action because he is afraid to testify," he added. Teamsters have demanded that their union, instead of the brewery workers, bo given Jurisdiction over hauling. i EX-HONOR STUDENT KILLS GRANDMOTHER OKLAHOMA CITY, July 27 (API Donald Knepper, 21. de scribed by his father as a former honor student at Oklahoma A. and M. college, was held in jail today while authorities sought to solve the slaying of his 75-year old grand mother, Mrs. O. N. Wefser. Deputy Sheriff Dan Kean said the youth, nppenrlng dazed, admit ted strangling the woman and cut ting her throat with his pocket knife. Mrs. Weiser and Knepper, her "favorite" grandson, had been slaying at a neighbor's home while the fumlly was away. Knepper' father, Feputy Coun ty Clerk Frank C. Knepper, said his son appeared at home late Sat urday night, seemingly unstrung. The father said his sou might have been affected by the heat Saturday when he worked under a burning sun.
