SUNSHINE CLUB CHANGES DATE OF NEXT MEETING TO AFTERNOON OF JULY 23 The Northside Sunshine club has announced a change In its next meeting date of Thursday of this week to the fourth Thursday in July, which occurs on the 23rd of the mouth. (AID A boyhood dream of emu lating some of the exploits of two great pioneers. Lewis and Clark. may come true this summer for the Rev. John W. Beard. With his 18-year-old sun, Robert, a L'niversity of Oregon sophomore, the M -year-old pastor of the Mount Tabor Presbyterian church here, hopes to backtrack part of the trail of Lewis and Clark by pad dling a canoe from the stnrt of the Missouri river to Sioux City, la. If the trip is successful, Mr. Beard will have realized a boy hood ambition of a cunoe journey tho length of the big river. But you say Sioux City isn t the end of the Missouri? Right. In 1919, he made the 1000-mile journey from Sioux City to St. Louis by canoe. Mr. Beard, who is chaplain of the Oregon national guard and served overseas as chaplain of the 361st Infantry, 91st division, and his son expect to leave here July 27, their canoe lashed to the top of their automobile. Six days later, August ' 1, they hope to set out from Three Forks. Mont., junction of the Madison, Gallatin and Jefferson rivers form ing the Missouri, for Sioux City, Mr. Beard's boyhood home. They expect to travel the 1740 miles in a mouth. He made the first part of the journey with Francis Jones, of Portland, shortly after his return from Frunce hut he saved the last leg until his son could accompany him. Fcllowing the luncheon there wilt be a short business session followed by a program at which J. V. Long of Roseburg will he the pttncipal speaker. Dr. R.
