Proponents have estimated that it will affect i5 per cent of the na tion's business. They have denied, huwever, that it constitutes an at tempt to "revive" the NHA. Lnder the new law those who sell goods and materials to gov ernment agencies, in amounts of ?1U,uu0 or more not purchascable ordinarily on the open market, must conform to labor require ments writteH Into their contracts. those will Include a maximum working day of eight hours and a maximum work week of 40 hours: payment of wage rates prevailing in the locality; employment of no boys under is nor girls under 16; banning of sweat-shop, convict and Home-work labor; factory sanita tion at least equal to that required under state law; and outlawing of wage "kick backs' to contractors by the workers. The law applies only to the prin cipal contractors, instead of also affecting sub-con tractors as did the original measure passed by the senate a year ago. The law complements the Dacon- Iavis act requiring payment of prevailing wages by contractors on government construction. (AP) A gray-haired man and his wife were beaten to death in their beds here today as their 8-year-old deaf mute daughter looked on. The dead are Adam Snyder. 62, and Mrs. Mabel Scott Snyder, 62. Mrs. Km m a Scott Jioee, 80, moth er of Mrs. Snyder, was beaten so badly she was not expected to live. A visitor, Mrs. Grace Mortensen, 35, of Salt Lake City, was badly cut and bruised. Police, shocked at the sanguin ary picture presented in the Sny der home, could obtain little help from the child witness to the bru tal crimes, curly-haired Betty Becker. They said they were seeking George Mortensen, 37, husband of Mrs. Grace Mortensen, for questioning. I'he victima were bludgeoned with a pick-handle. Police Sergeant L. M. illlton Jnan Vasquez, 22 months old, was abandoned by his mother, a cafe enter tainer, at Los Angeles. Juan likes cigarettes. And he likes wine too. In Police Dispute LOGGING OUTFIT GOES TO LEBANON GLENDALB, Ore., July 1. N. S. Woodroffe is moving his logging equipment of "cats" and trucks from Glendale this week to Sweet Home, near Lebanon, where he has purchased a large tract of timber. Mr. Woodroffe will loe for the onen I market at Poitland. The timber is of very high grade and a large percentage of it will be sold for export in the log, he reports. Together with his father, the late J. a. Uoodrofle, and his brother, Paul, Mr. Woodroffe has logged in and around Glendale since the spring of 1929. Many of his men who have lived in Glendale for many years, will make the move with Mr. Woodrofte. She said, Hilton asserted, that Mortensen had followed her here and. that she told him she would not return with him until he stop ped drinking. They discussed the matter for some time, before retir ing. Mortensen then went to sleep on the couch In the front room, Hil ton said he learned. The deaf-mute child, a daughter of Mrs. Mortensen by a former marriage, ran to a nearby store operated by Mrs. John Sabine, shortly after 7 a. m. about an hour, police conjectured, after the killings.
