immigration committee protesting displacement of '
American entertainers by foreign stars gives rise
to some amusing speculations. It wos suggested
that a reciprocal trade agreement be established
with other nations regarding exchange of artists,

responding to the quota of foreign stars invading
American shores. To put the whole thing into the

ter room in the armory. Alter a
brief business meeting the mem
bers of the auxiliary, together with
the Legion and Veterans of ror-
eien Wars, joined In a "bonus
celebration at the Blks temple. A
large portion of the hilarious pro
gram was presented by Legion-
naires from South Douglas couniy,,
who were honored guests at the
occasion. .
The annual nonny noter contest,
Is the current project before Ump
qua unit. This contest is open to
all students in tue elementary anu,
high schools of the state. Douglas
county baa always had some splen
did entries, many having received
state recognition. Through the co
operation of the county school sup
erintendent, rules of tho contest
have been sent to every school Iti
the county. Creaitng these posters
is of two major benefits to the stu
dent tirst, the stimulation o;
patriotism, and secondly, the de
velopment of latent artistic talent.
At the Tuesday evening meeting
Mrs. Parkinson announced the Na
tional Defense and Americanism
conference sponsored by the Amer
ican Legion and its auxiliary,
which will be an event of Thursday
evening, March 12, in the grand
ballroom at the Multnomah hotel

' Mrs. Irving Ueigal, department
hospital chairman, is of the opiiif
ion that "precious things come in
small packages." For the second
time during the past few months
a diminutive auxiliary unit has
sent a handsome contribution to
the veterans at the hospital. From
Kirby, Josephine county, one ot
the smallest but most active units
of the stale, last week came seven
boxes of the choicest home made
candy, a large box of cookies and
cakes, ten tablets with envelopes
three stamp books and two car
tons of cigarettes. To say that the
boys enjoyed these contributions is
a gross understatement. Incidental
ly, Kirby boasts the membership
of Hie slate chaplain of the Ameri
can Legion auxiliary, Airs. Mary
White. Mrs. White, a distinguished
woman or mature years, is one (if
the best loved of department offi
ce rs,
Card Party Held At Facility
Tuesduy the regular bi-monthly
card parly was held at the bar
racks at the facility. There were
six tables of bridge and pinochle
in play. Auxiliary girls assisting at
the affair were Airs. Roy Young,
Airs. Irving Reigal, Airs. Ada Rog
ers, Mrs. George McBee, Airs. Jus
tine Stephenson and Airs. Clinton
Gorthy. It is reported that some of
the boys are getting so expert at
the rules and play of contract
bridge that they are about ready
to chullenge ail comers.
Veterans Will Make Poppies
Fifty -five thousand poppies will
be made hy veterans at the local
facility between now and poppy
day. May 30. The veterans are al
lowed one cent apiece for each
poppy made, which will provide
them with a little allowance as
well as occupation. The materials
for the poppies have been ordered .
and the money for the payment is
