Mrs. Virgil Smith motored to Eugene Tuesday to Bpend several days visiting friends and relatives. Miss Nina Johnson, Miss Iua Farnsworth, Miss Mazie Walker, and Russell C. Clark attended the teachers' local institute held at Oakland Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. George W. Dlra- niick, who are members of Oregon pioneer families, and who have long been' residents of Wilbur, moved Sunday to a ranch on the McKenzie river, about twelve miles from Eugene. They expect to make their home permanently on the ranch. They will be greutly missed In the community and throughout Douglas county. REEDSPORT (Nctn-Review lXititfU. Word has been received by friends of the Haas family, here that Al Haas, well known forinei resident, is receiving treatment in the Veterans' hospital in Vortland. The family moved to St. Helens when the mill closed. Messrs. Frank and Ernest Wade were Marshfield visitors Tuesday Raymond Walsh of Eugene, dis trict engineer, and Olenn Roberts, in charge of the road between ScottsburK and Eiktou were in town Wednesday. A forestry moving picture was given at the Lookingglass school by W. V. Fuller and D. O. Weaver, from the state forestry service. It was enjoyed by all school students. Dr. John Wilson, Edna Dunbar and Ernestine Riddle were among the Riddle people attending the celebration at Roseburg Tuesday eventn. Dr. Irvine of Myrtle Creek was called here Thursday morning to attend C. M. Acker, who is quite ill at his home with the flu. Mrs. Blilley Nichols was hostess to the GOO club Wednesday eve' nlng. Twelve cars of broccoli have been shipped from Riddle this season. It is expected there will be about twenty cars when the crop iB all harvested. The local high school basketball team left Wednesday afternoon for Ashland where they partlcl pated in the southern Oregon bas ketball tornnanient for the ensuing three days. They were accompau led by Ahner Logsdon, who acted as their coach. The following boys went on the trip: Harold 'Townsend, Arnold Pfal't', Hen and Owen Willis, Keith Henry, Uabe Mellor, lAlvin Walker and Kills Nllis. LIVE COYOTE ROPED BY OAKLAND MEN (NYws-Ki'vicw !)illitlnu County SKHliul) OAKLAND, March 21. A live coyote was exhibited on the streets bore. Thursday, and caused con.iid erabl excitement. The animal was captured in the Red Hill section by a party of hunters, assisted by a pack of hounds. Quite a number of lambs have been killed in that '.errilory by this coyote and Its mate which the hunters hope to capture later. The dos bayed this animal near a small creek but could not kill their prey on account of tlio water mid a bank. On arrival of the' men they roped the coyoto uud brought it to Oakland. Among those taking part in the chase were, Erwin Rice, Dean Hen ry, Clarence Thompson and Floyd Smith. FINES IMPOSED IN GLENDALE COURT (News-Review Douglai County Srrial) GLEN DA LK, Mroh 20. WILBUR Russell C, Clark en tertained Thursday evening with a chicken dinner at the Hotel Ump qua in honor of the Wilbur high sehool basketball team. Other guests included Miss Nina Johnson, principal, Clay Smith and Arthur Crocker. ' Following the dinner a brief review of the basketball sea son was given by the coach. The records show that of gnmes played, including . loagua and non-league games, eight were won and five lost A total of 191 points were scored during the season. Fifty one fouls were committed. Mr. Clark pre sented each boy with a letter In the school colors of blue nnd gold. Kach one responded with a few words of appreciation to the coach. Later the group went to the Indian theater. A radio had been installed in tlio hall to hear tho popular feature broadcustcd at 8 o'clock. The dining room was decorated in keeping with the day. The switchboard of the Glendale Tele phone company was swamped with calls Tuseday forenoon shortly after the news came out that the veterans' home had been awarded to Roseburg. According to I. H. Smith, mana ger, who huppened to be in oharge of the board when the big news broke, the news from Roseburg oc casioned more telephone calls than s usually evoked by the fire siren here. Conflicting reports received here at first regarding the celebra tion to be staged al Roseburg were like the "on again, off agaiu, gone ary and Helen Lawrence wore the committee in charge and they were assisted in serving by Miss Ruth Chenoweth and Miss Lois Morris. Miss Lura Pinkston will be hoateas for the olub at their next meeting, April 7. MELROSE, Ore., March 21 Mrs. E. M. Seeley entertained the West Melrose Embroidery club Thursday afternoon. Spring flowers were attractive ly arranged about the rooms. The afternoon was spent in sew ing and conversation. The occasion also marked the birthday anniversary of Mrs. C. O. Criteser. At a later hour a delicious lunch was served at a large table cen tered with a large birthday cake. Covers were placed for Mrs. Lydia Wilson, Clyde Cooper and Mrs. Leatha Livingston, guests. Members presont were Mrs. II. G. Thompson, Mrs. E. L. Tester, Mrs. John Galla, Mrs. C. O. Criteser, Mrs. W. O. Cooper, Mrs. F. E. Brothers, Mildred Criteser and the hostess, Mrs. Seeley.
