Lady Elks Working Hard on Christmas Baskets to Be Given Needy Families The Lady Elks met In the Elks temple Tuesday afternoon and pre pared for their "Christmas Needy" baskets to be given by the mem bers lo needy families at Christ mas time. Toys were mended as well as clothes repaired.. The comiulttue In charge ol making baby layettes, al so seweil during the afternoon hours. Friends of the Lady Elks were generous in their giving ol old toys and clothes and the mem bers have been busy converting tnem back to new. After several busy hours of work, Mrs. Bertha Parrott served tea. The members will meet again next Monday afternoon at one thirty o'clock lo coutiuue the work. The uoseburg Woman's club I met In the club rooms on Tueauay a tie moon of this week with Mm. w. K. Ott, president , tn charge. Community staging waB enjoyed at ine opening of the nieetinii. Mra. Ott appointed Mrs. William Bell, Mrs. L. Kohlhagen and Mrs. S. L. Kidder to go before the Douglas county court in behalf of the County Health Unit. Mia. W. E. Ott and Mra. A. G. McAiiilin are representing the club to aid the city council and the chamber of commerce to aid in the unemployment actuation in llose- uurg. Mrs. Ott read a letter from the Oregon Products company asking the club to cooperate to boost an Oregon products dinner some time after the first of the year, at which time only products grown in this state would be served. At this lime the merchants will be asked to decorate their windows with Oregon products also. Instead of exchanging gifts this year, each member has been asked to bring something for the club baskets, which will be made up and taken to needy families In the city at Christmas time. Vegetables, fruit, groceries, clothing and toys will be needed to fill the baskets. Church to Hold Annual Christmas Party The Ladies Aid of the Methodist Episcopal church will hold their ii n mini Christmas afternoon party at the church next Thursday at one o'clock. Each member lias been asked to bring something that can be used for a needy family iu the city . In previous years It has been the custom to draw names and buy a gift for the name drawn. This has been done away with for this year and the money used for the gift Is to help those In need. A one o'clock luncheon will be served by Mrs. Foster Butner and her committee. A program will be given and a pleasant social after-, noon will be enjoyed. A canned fruit shower was held at a previous meeting of the Unit and a generous supply of canned fruits. Jellies nnd jams were supplied to each family, in addition to other articles of rood.
