Roseburg Woman's Club Has Endowment Fund Tea on Monday Afternoon Tho Roseburg Woman's club met on Monday afternoon of this week In the Woman's club rooms on South Jackson street, for the en dowment fund sliver tea. Autumn flowers were used as a decorative note. Community singing was enjoyed, after which Mrs. W. E. Ott, president, had charge of the regular business meeting, jteports on the recent conven tion held In Eugene were given by Mrs. Arthur Austin, Mrs. William Hell and Mrs. W. E. Ott. Mrs. L. Kohlhagen made a report on the summers work .and Mrs. WUIlum Hell talked on the whys and where fores of the endowment fund. The Federation of Women's clubs of Oregon Is raising an endowment fund of 121,000, the Interest of whlchl "ill be used to promote wel fare work throughout the state. Parker and Mrs. C, W. Fles. . Days Creek School to , Sponsor Thanksgiving Dinner This Yearv The executive board of tho Days Creek P.-T. A. met at the school this week and planned for the com munity Thanksgiving dinner, which will he held at the schoolhouse on Thanksgiving day. A similar evoht was held last year and was such a splendid suc cess that those of the community, who attended are looking forward to the pleasant time again this year. Full plans for the affair will be announced within a short time, Days Creek School Has Hallowe'en Party on Last Week-End An Interesting event of last week-end was the Hallowe'en party held at the Days Creek school un der the auspices of the P.-T. A. of that community. The schoolhouse rooms were beautifully decorated with Hallo we'en colors, black cats, witches, pumpkins and corn being much in evidence,. A spooky atmosphere held sway "The Itooni of Horrors" and "The Room of Mystery" held ghosts and gypsy fortune tollers who met the guests and entertain ed them. Votes for Dancing Club for School The senior high school Parent Teacher association met on Tues day evening In the high school building for the regular business meeting. J. E. Dent, president; was in charge of the business ses sion, at which time "Dancing in the. Schools" was discussed by the par ents and teachers. A vote was taken and thirty-one voted for dancing In the schools and only four voted against the measure. The above subject has been brought up lu the various P.-T. A. organizations at various intervals during the pust few years. The dances being asked for by the students will be properly chaper oned and cared for, If a cluh of this type is organized. Plans were dis cussed for getting In touch with all of the parents regarding the subject and it Is hoped that some definite conclusion will be arrived at soon. Mrs. L. W. Melzger was in charge of the evening's program. Miss Frederlcka Kershaw gave a planologue;. Dr. Shoemaker gave an Interesting talk on "Cold Pre vention," nnd Leroy Hlatt sang a solo accompanied by Miss Kershaw at the piano. Neah-Kah-Nie String Quartette Coming Here Monday, November 24th , The Neah-Kuh-Nle String Quar tette, under the auspices of the Roseburg Chamber Music society, will play the first of its two sche duled concerts, Monday evening, November 24, at eight o'clock at Ihe First Presbyterian church. The personnel of this quartetto is com posed, of Susie Fennell Pipes, first violin; Hubert Sorenson,- .second violin; Alexander Vdovln, t'ola, and Michel Peuka, cellist. The quartette played last year at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Helnlino and were greatly enjoyed by .those attnndlrfg. This year, a Roseburg Chumbcr Music society has been formed and Is organizing at this time for the purpose of bringing this music to Roseburg. Covers were placed for the regular niembes and the following guests: Mrs. R. L. Oile, Mrs. Knight, Mrs. Ivle. Mrs. C. B. Calkins and Mrs. Addison. - Following the luncheon, a busi ness meeting was held, with Mrs. S. A. Sanford presiding. A short entertainment followed, with Mrs. John Porter giving a humorous reading and Mrs. Spencer playing an Instrumental solo. Sewing and visiting were later enjoyed. There was a fine attendance and a lively interest was shown in all departments of the work. A cooked food and tamale sale was planned for November 15th. Irving Home in Wilbur Tuesday Evening John Irving aod Harry Schnei der wro -hosts at an Informal party in Wilbur on Tuesday eve ning of this week. The forepart of the evening was spent hiking up the North Umpqua trail. A large bonfire was built on the banks of the river and several hours of sing ing and visiting were enjoyed, aft er which, the group returned to the home of Mrs. L. A. The rooms were attractively decorated with autumnal flowers. A business ses sion was held until about nine o'clock when the party was unex pectedly Interrupted by about twenty masked intruders from Miss Mne Fisher's side who ser pentined around the rooms sing ing a song to the lime of "Hallelu jah, I'm a Hum," words composed by Mrs. K. H. Kenny and each verse being written In honor of each of the executive members. Ellis en-' tertained their, friends with a Hal lowe'en party at their home In Edenbower on tost Friday evening. The guests were met at the door by.a ghost, who directed them to the spiritual world, held in the downstairs of the Ellis home. The guests were later .directed by' the ghost to the attic, which was dec orated with cornstalks, pumpkins, goblins and other Hallowe'en dec orations. Games and visiting were enjoyed, after which five-hundred was played. Black cats, witches and other Hallowe'en ornaments were used throughout the rooms, A realistic ghost with a pumpkin head directed the guests in all of the festivities. Garden Valley Women's Club Holds Meeting on Thursday Afternoon The first fall meeting of the Garden Valley Women's club was held at the home of Mrs. Hugh Ritchie Sr., on Thursday after noon, with Mrs. Donna Ferguson as hostess.' The living room was brightened by bouquets of lnrge chrysanthemums and Hallowe'en tokens. ' The Hallowe'en cblor scheme was also carried out in the luncheon, which was served by the hostess,' assisted by Mrs. .Hugh Ritchie Sr., and Miss Margaret Ferguson. Much amusement was afforded by the candle fortunes, which were prepared hy Miss Ferguson, each guest drawing two fortunes. The club members present Included Mrs. It. A. Calhoun, Mrs. R. Ewens. AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY ACTIVITIES The thing of most Interest fo our Auxiliary now is, of course, Armistice day. Usually the two Im portant events on that day are the football game and the dance in the evening. During our last meeting Rudolph Rltzman turned over to the secretary 150 tickets which ke urged us to sell. All those wishing tickets will be able to get them from any of the Auxiliary melr bers. We hope to make this Armis tice day celebration the best ever. Every Armistice day it is the cus tom for the Legion boys to have a big dinner at noon, which will this year be a venison "feed." They have asked for about 35 Auxiliary ladies to help Berve.
