Margaret Hewitt, employe of the
Douglas National bank, is enjoy
ing a two weeks' vacation from
hnr duties. Her position is being
filled by Clarence Hand, tormerly
employed by the bank.

Caraway is spending this week in
Eugene attending the University
of Oregon summer course, pre
paratory to taking the Alaskan
cruise offered by the university as
part of the course. Mrs. Caraway
will be joined by her husband for

RUMORS OF CHANGE
Rumors that the Lockwood Mo
tor company has sold out are un
founded, according to C. A. Lock
wood, who states that there has
been no change In the business or
management. The rumors grew
out of the fact that Edwarrl E.
Hatch, former Ford dealer In Cali
fornia, spent several days here
visiting wilh Mr. Lockwood, while
on a tour of Oregon nnd Washing
ton looking for a location. Mr.
Hatch plans to buy a business In (
either Oregon or Washington and I
is looking over the two states with
a view of securing a location for
a business and home. He is greatly
impressed with Roseburg and sur
rounding territory, but has not
yet decided where he will locate

fire of incendiary origin burned
near Breitenbush Springs today
with more than mo men fighting
its spread over a mile long line.
Santiain forest headquarters

bovs will spend Saturday at the
lake, resting and preparing their
equipment for a hike down the
