The Boosting Spirit
THIS aeclion of Oregon, llila
Umpqua valley of ours, is go
ing ahead rapidly. The sheer boot
iiig spirit of the people is carrying
uh forward to a bigger and belter
city and a more prosperous valley.
What is meant by "boosting
Spirit?" Here ia an example or
two; Juat a little over a year ago
our chamber of commerce secre
tary, W. C. Harding, conceived the
Idea . that the northwest tjtates
needed a national home for vet
erans and that such home should
be located In lioseburg. Work be
gan with the idea, Oregon's dele
gation In congresB was interested,
Dr. Htowart gave up bin practice
for nearly two months and went to
Washington and as a result of
ton, Monroe's father, Is a former
pastor of the Christian church here.
Monroe Hilton Is now a map I
draftsman for the Pacific Tele
phone and Telegraph company in
Los Anfeeles. The newlyweds will
spend 10 days visiting at Grants'
Pass, going to Crater lake, the
caves and other scenic spots be
fore returning to the California
city to make their home.
