he grieved to know that she has
been ill at her home for the past
week. Mrs. Stewart's condition is
not greatly improved, according

morrow at the Kullerton school
with an interesting program. Ty
ing in the May day celebration
with Oregon Founders' day, the
school is putting on a colonial pro
gram in which 'he pupils "will de
pict colonial characters and will
present a skit incident with the
pioneer days of Oregon's settle
ment. The entertainment is to
start at 2 o'clock.

The first carload shipment of
ore fron. the Chieftain mine on
South Myrtle creek is to lie com
pleted within the next few days,
according to Kdward Iawv, who.
accompanied by Mrs. Law and his
partner, Krnest Ward, was hi Hose
burg today attending to business
matters.
Mr. Law tok over the old Ctui'f
tain mine two years apo and has
been doing development work to
pel (be mine tn n)eraiion. It was
abandoned several years aso, after
very profitable production over a
! lon period of years. Tho vein was
believed to have been work d out
and the owners of the property
abandoned it.
rMr7"LavTwho has had much ex
perience in mining work, made a
careful Investigation of the prop
perty and became convinced that
the vein had not been worked out
and that the mine still held much
valuable mineral.
He estimated that the lode would
he tapped at a depth of 112 feet
and his calculations were proven
accurate to within three feet, as
the vein was reached at 115 feet.
The mine has now been reopened,
he states and rich values have
been found. The vein if widening
out as progress is made, and
there is every indication that 11
will prove very rich when the
heavv production work Is started,
Mr. Law says.
Trucks are now hauling the ore
into Mvrtle Creek and a minimum
car weight has already been takn
in. but the car will not be moved
until fully loaded, which will re
quire n few more days.
It Is planned to erect n stamp
mill In the near future to eliminate
(he necessity for heavy transporta!-lion.
