Anyone who hasn't been stopped by an ol'J'icer in the last
few "years will lit! surprised to find that the officers nowa
days are (jentlenien and that they treat you with courtesy
anil j-espect when they have to ask you to stop. Nearly
everyone who drives a car remembers, with a little shudder,
having had contact at one time or another in the past with
a ""traffic cop." A mean, surly, hard-boiled fellow he used
id be. The way he wouid talk to you for even a minor in
fraction of the traffic code would make you want to pick
up his motorcycle and shove it down his throat. Not so
these days. ' These men are either trained or have native
intelligence enough to know that people who drive cars are
just human beings loo; that most of us try to drive decently
enough, and that we all appreciate helpful courtesy in place
of hard-boiled blustering.
There is not a doubt in the world that these traf
fic: officers of this day and age carry just as hard a "wal
lop" as did some of the blustering boys of a few years ago.
If anyone has any question about this, let him get tough and
mean with one of these officers. Motoring in Oregon will
be safer with this sort of traffic regulation because our.
stjilo traffic officers, if all of
down here, command respect and will have cooperation. 1 he
other kind of officer, the fellow who blusters and insults,
only promotes antagonism and resentment.

The Lions club put their show over the top in fine shape
and now they have a little money, and they hope to raise a
little more and then they will put on a radio broadcast pro
gram from one of the great 1'aeil'ic coast stations for the
purpose of advertising the wonders of our I'mptpia valley.
Those fellows certainly are civic minded and the fine thing
about them is that they I'UT OVI4II things that they start.
We envy the goldfish. During freezing weather they
rriay be placed outside and frozen into a solid block of ice
and liberated days later without ill effect. What an excellent
way they have of keeping in out of the cold weather.

the public library and secured an
option on the aquarium.

We all discover, some time, that
some one thing is bad for us. V

for pork, pastry, candy, or one of

agree with us, something perhaps
that has stood us in good stend for

acter by changing our rating hab
its. We find that we feel better.

There can ho no doubt that cer
tain foodstuffs are poisonous to
some people. There is no use try

just have to eliminate all or part

and brain, you just cannot afford
to indulge in it.
Form good sleeping habits. Most
people need eight hours of good
sleep every night in the week, "day
in and day out." Somy;et along

resistwnce to disease. It is some
thing to think about.
