The Edenbower Parent-Teacher
association met last week-end
for a hard time party at the
school house. A large crowd was
present and a most enjoyable
evening was spent.

the party. Mrs. J. D. Addison,
president of the P.-T. A., also as
sisted during the evening.
The school house recently in

the first gathering since that

to Be Public Affair
Next Thursday Night
An interesting meoting Is being
planned for next Thursday night,
January 23, at the Odd Fellows'
hall, at which time the "Decora
tion of Chivalry" will be confer
red on a member of the local
lodge. This is an honor bestow
ed only on those who are found
worthy for their good works and
untiring efforts In behalf of the
order.
This is a public ceremony and
not only Odd Fellows and Iie
bekahs are invited, but the entire
public is welcome.
The ceremony will be In charge
of the department commander,
Brigadier (ieneral W. E. Wads
worth, of Harrisburg, assisted by
a staff of officers from the Eugene

Married in Portland
at Quiet Wedding
A recent wedding of great In
terest to their numerous friends
Is that of Miss Mildred Fullerton
and Ir. Adrian Fisher, which oc
curred on Thursday. January 2, at
four o'clock in the afternoon in the
First Methodist church of Port
land. The ceremony was perform
ed by. Rev. Wilbur Dowson and
the attendants were Miss Ruth
Fullerton, sister of the bride, and
Mr. Harry Crocker, an old school
mat e of the bridegroom.
Miss Fullerton has been employ
ed in the Fern florist shop in
Roseburg for the past four years
and is one of the very popular
and capable young ladles of this
city. Mr. Fisher was employed by
the California-Oregon Power. com
pany for the three and a half years
and since last fall, has been em
ployed by the Northwestern Elec
tric company in Portland. Mr. and
Mrs. Fisher have taken an attrac
tive apartment 1 th Rena Villa
apartments at 189 Vista avenue
in Portland.

Institute on
January' 25
Twenty-one schools of Douglas
county have been aaked to attend
the local institute at Canyonvllle
which will be held on January 25.
Each teacher has been asked to
bring a good piece of work from
the school for display purposes.
The work brought Is to he well
marked so that judges will hnve
no trouble in deciding the winners
of the' displays. Miss Harriet
Wanisley has charge of the display
work.

Daughters of the Nile, were the

evening. The table was lovely
with red tapers and red candles. A
delicious six-thirty o'clock dinner
was served to a large attendance
of members. The event honored
the retiring president. Mrs. Nathan
Fullerton. and . the 1930 president,
Mrs. William Bell.
The regular business meeting
followed the dinner and the new
officers were placed in charge.
Mrs. Nathan Fullerton opened the
meeting and after making a short
talk, -turned the business over to
Mrs. William Bell Reports were
given on the past year's work and
the new president appointed her
committees for the new vear.

At one of the recent Umpqua
unit American Legion auxiliary
meetings, it was decided that a
paid-up membership for one year,
would be given each new bah ;
girl, who was eligible to belong to
the auxiliary.
The first 1930 baby girl" to re
ceive this honor was the infant
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Iee
Williams of this city. The baby
was born recently at the Rose
burg General hospital and is
starting her life by being a mem
ber of this large organization. The
baby has been named Norma Ann
Williams.

Monday for Musicale
Several cars of RoBeburg music
lovers will go to Eugene Monday
to attend the concert of the Port
land Symphony orchestra and the
University of Oregon chorus,
which will take place at McArthur
Court. The symphony orchestra
has 70 people engaged in the pro
gram which no doubt will be one
of the finest concerts of the sea
son. The .program will begin at 8:30
o'clock. Tschalkow sky's Fifth
Symphony and Rimsky-Korsakov's
"Spanish Caprice" will be the prin
cipal orchestral selections to be
played on the evening's program.

Willem van Hoogstraten, noted
conductor of the Portland sym
phony, is associated with the Uni
versity of Oregon in several
wavs. Three years ago he was
granted an honorary degree as doc
tor of nnisic by the university ami
was made a member of one of the
national social fraternities on the
campus. At present he is a mem
ber of the Portland university ex
tension faculty, teaching classes
in conducting and orchestration.
