Dally, by catrler, per mouth- ROSEBURG, OREGON, THE LEAGUE THE tenth anniversary of the organization of the league of nations is being observed this month. Twenty-five ' organizations interested in promoting closer international relationships are taking part in the observance. For its ten years of activity the league points to these major accom plishments: Settlement of the Corfu incident between Italy and Greece. Settlement of the dispute over the Aland islands be tween Sweden and Finland. - Settlement of the trouble between Poland and Lith uania over Vilna and other boundaries. Stopping of the actual invasion of Lulgaria by Greece. Settlement of the boundary dispute between Paraguay and Bolivia over the international boundary. While the United States is not a member of the leaguu and therefore does not participate actively in its work, our government has been officially or unofficially represented in more than 100 conferences on invitation of the league since 1920. The most important of these conferences have had to do with limitation of armaments but have included ulso gatherings for the discussion of public health problems, opium traffic, welfare of women and children, international relief, finance, economics and many other subjects of in ternational interest. The league of nations is not the ideal instrument that Wilson visioncd. European intrigue prevented that. Wil son's own stubbornness and that of the senate irrccon ciliables kept the United States out of it. Nevertheless the league as it stands and without American participation in membership is something. It is not without achievements. The world is benefiting by its work. It has not brought us to the millenium but ils efforts have been worthy and fruit ful, o Count on New York, the city with the jazz mayor and the home of bulls and bears, to furnish unusual news. Dis patches from that city yesterday told of a serious riot ac companied by some property damage by a crowd of some i000 people who wanted to see moving pictures relating to the Einstein theory. j o i" This is the sort of weather that makes us really appre ciate the Umpqua valluy climate. Some typ are very mild in their nature, while others are more severe. t is encouraging to know, that through a carefully planned diet and the use of insulin treatments, the disease may be kept in control. If a patient will follo'w curtain health rules, he may live long and enjoy a useful life. The use of insulin in diabetes dates from 1921, when Dr. Fred erick G.
