They could see nothing except a few birds in a tree. "Hurry, hurry" . It was orui of the birds, a swal low to be exact, uud it was culling to ita companions, who came glid ing to the tree from all directions. It was a cold cloudy day. Winter was in the uir. Tho swallows seemed to be getting ready for something unusual. They .chirped sharply and glanced about in quick nervous twists. "What are they in such a hurry about?" MiJ wanted to know. "They must be late," said Yam. "H111 m, late for what?" asked Knarf. No one seemed to know, so Knarf called through the window: "Hello, there, what are you in such a hurry about?" He received no answer. It was as if they hadn't even heard him, which was quite likely, as shadow language is re markable for its stillness. More over, the window was tightly shut. "Let's go out," Ilanld suggested. So out they went, squeezing them selves through a crude as shadows can so easily do.
