Santa Claus and
No more reindeer and bells for
Santa Claus. Ilehlnd the roar of a
powerful motor and the gale of a
whirling propellor in a Fokkor' air
plane, Santa Claus ' made a trip
over Roseburg yesterday after
noon In a special plane provided
for him by the Richfield Oil com
pany. With his fleet slck'h trans
formed Into a luxurious, heated
cabin, and "Dormer ami Illitzen"
replaced by a huge Wasp motor,
Santa Claus traveled with comfort
and speed, as he made a hurried,
pre-Chrlstnms trip over Oregon
yesterday, laden with g!ft for the
boys and girls of each community.
The Richfield company had so
many presents fo'r the kiddies of
Hie large territory which that or
ganization serves that they had to
call on Santa Claus to help in the
deliveries, and so they placed their
airplane fleet at his command,
and with his wonderful knowledge
of the territory, and the places to
be served, he chose a blue and
gold trimmed plane and flew from
Medford to Portland yesterday,
dropping off letters to children in
each city over which he passed,
telling them about the Christmas
jifts that are walling for them at
all Hichfietd stations.

HILL BE TESTED
Through the efforts of the Doug
las County Dairymen s association
arrangements have been made to
test the dairy herds of the county
lor contagious abortion. 1 ilia dread
disease iiaa tiuaucially ruined many
dairymen, and its existence in any
herd means not only a very heavy
losi; in offspring, bat also in milk
production.
Douglas county Is one or the lew
counties of the state that is prac
tically free from this disease. It is
believed bv ihe dairymen that by
liequebt and careful testing it will
be possible to keep the disease
iron i gaining any spread lu this
county through outside eources.
Herds belonging to Conn Broth
ers, Fred Coti. Vincent rrescnerii
and J. F. lionebrake have been re
cently tested and have been pass
ed as being entirely tree from the
disease.
Dr. George Nicholas, county vet
erinarian, is continuing the teats
and the association hopes that not
only all of its own members but
other dairymen as well will taite
advantage of the opportunity to
have their cows tested.
As a special rate of 33 cents per
head is made to members or the as
sociation, the officers are urging
additional memberships for the or
ganization, the membership fee be
ing only 50 cents. The association
is not only keeping up a fight
against disease but is also working
to secure better breeding stock and
is receiving valuable assistance
through the county agent's office
and the college specialists In such
problems aa judging, testing, feed
