Junior High P. T. A. . Has Interesting Meeting Tuesday Night The regular meeting of the jun ior high school PareutVlVachers association was held on Tuesday evening of this week in the audi torium. The meeting was well at tended and roved interesting to all present. The president, Mr. L. V. MetzKor, had charge of the business session, which consisted of reports from the various stand ing committees, the appointment of new committees, and short talks on the "Good of the Order" by several of the members. The "visitation committee" which had been appointed at the previous meeting and which had been very active during the month, gave its report. Each member of the com mittee was loud In his praise of the work being done in the junior high school and spoke very highly of the principal and teachers for the efficient manner in wlch the school was being operated. Following the business session, the program committee consisting or Miss Thelma Smith, Miss Nel lie Westra and Mr. T. T. McKen zie. presented nn enjoyable pro gram. The first number consist ed of two musical selections with Frances Metzgor as solist, Phyllis Ann Iiolter, violinist antl Dorothy Krear at tin piano. t A Christmas play, "The Doll Shop" coached by sMiss Mae Moore, was given. El nora Dickey gave a reading follow ed by a pinnologue by Mildred Thompson.- The concluding num ber on the program was a musical selection by Frances Metrger, Phyl lis Ann Ilolter and Dorothy Frear. Members Have Christmas Party on Wednesday Afternoon Tho V. C. T. U. enjoyed their annuai Christ mas afternoon on Wednesday of this week at the Woman's club rooms. Mrs. E. 1 Wilis was in charge. Mrs. Cham berlain led the dvoMonals, choosing her Christmas lesson from the second chapter of Luke. A short business meeting follow ed, nfterw filch a delightful Christ mas program was an joyed. M is. Ashcraft and Mrs. Chamberlain sang a duet entitled "Silent Night," and Mrs. Ashcraft also gave a most enjoyable poem entitled, "What Kind of Song." Arrangements were made for an all-day institute to he helu in Kuse burg on January 16th. All members brought generous donations und gifts for the chil dren of the farm home. A silver tea was served by Mrs. C. A. Edwards and Mrs. John Pen ball, hostesses. Mr. Lockwood Host on Thursday at Christmas Stag Party Mr. C. A. Lockwood was host on Thursday evening at "Itumble Inn" lodge on the North Umpqua, when he entertained with an an nual stag party honoring the lo ral Ford Motor company em ployees. The guest were wel comed by a huge fire in the fire place and a delicious six-thirty o'clock Christmas dinner. Cov ers were laid for Mr. C. A. Mr. Paden Surprised by Friends on Birthday on Saturday Evening Friends of Mr. Chester Paden surprised him on his birthday last Saturday evening by calling at his home for an evening of enjoyment. Cards and dancing were enjoyed by Mr. and Mrs. Chester Paden. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Kniss, Mr. and Mrs. C. K. Fowler and Mr. and Mrs. L. Hawkins. Delicious refreshments were served at a late hour. Royal Arch Chapter Entertain Ladies Tuesday The Royal Arch chapter enter tained their wives on Tuesday night at a six-thirty dinner at the Masonic temple. The tables were lovely with Christmas decorations. Dinner was served by a committee in rharire. The ladles played cards during the remainder of the evening, while the men were attending to lodge work. H. C. Wood. Officers for the coming year were eleeted. Mrs. Clifford McKay, president; Mrs. Hutton, vice-president; Mrs. L. J. Potvin, secretary and treasurer. A Christmas tree, lively with ornaments and sparkling icicles, was a feature of the afternoon. The members enjoyed the rvgular social hour and later exchanged gills. Members present were Mrs. 11. C. Has Regular Meeting on Thursday Evening The Riversdale Parent Teacher association members held their regular monthly meeting on Thurs day evening at the school bouse. Mrs. Harmon, president, officiated. Mrs. Carrie M. Baker is teacher of the school. Rev. Balrd, of the Roseburg Christian church, gave several most enjoyable readings, which was followed by the regular busi ness session. Girls' Club Entertain Alumni With Tea on Thursday Afternoon The annual Homecoming Tea. or Alumni Tea, was served on Friday afternoon at the senior hiyb school cafeteria. An attendance of titty were present. This an una I tea Is one of the outstanding events of the Girls' club during the var. A program was enjoyed, which consisted of solos by Mins (Hive Ol son, readings, und selections by the orchestra. Tea was tbeii served by the two oldest alumni members present. The cafeteria was charm ingly decorated with bells, mistle toe and small decorated Christmas trees. The tea was under the direction or Miss Vivian Williams. Miss Elsie Pijtterson. Miss Helen Davis and Miss Jennie Dirks assisted Miss Williams in making this tea a success. & Mrs. Guy C. Perrin Surprised on Birthday on Wednesday Evening Mrs. A. H. Osborn was a charm ing hostess jtt her lovely home in West Riisebuig on Tuesday after noon, when she lUiLerlaiued the members of the Social Eight club with a Christmas party. Christ mas decorations were used most effectively throughout the rooms. Colorful streamers, in holiday col ors, were attached to the chan delier and caught with small bou quets at each corner of the room. Holly and mistletoe added a fes tive note to the utmosphere. A brightly adorned Christmas tree completed the lovely setting. A delicious one o'clock luncheon was served by Mrs. Osborn, assisted by Miss Eva Rice and Mrs. Grttnl Os born. Ladies Auxiliary of Trainmen Will Hold Annual Dinner Tonight The Ladies Auxiliary of Train men will entertain with a six o'clock dinner at the Woman's club rooms tonight. A delightful Christ mas party will be held following the dinner. Out of town guests will Include Mrs. IJaum anil daugh ter, Mrs. H. A. West, both of Eu gene, and Mr. and Mrs. A. T. Mo rian of Portland. The installation of the officers will be held also. Mrs. C. P. Snod dy is the retiring president. The new officers an;: Mrs. F. S. Brand, president; Mrs. Marlon Terry, vice president ; Mrs. Viola Thurston, treasurer; Ms. Catherine Dawe, secretary and Mrs. Gainett Ellison, chaplain. A most entertaining and pleasant evening is anticipated. B. P. W. C. HasAnnual Christmas Party on Friday at Parish Hall The Business and Professional Women's club enjoyed their an nual Christmas party at the Epis copal paiish house on Friday even ing. Fifty five guests were pres ent for" the evening. The ball was gay with a large tree at one end of the room, which was heavily laden with presents for all of the guests, mistletoe, evergreen boughs and small trees completed the Christ mas setting. The gifts were brought by a Phantom Friend to each club member. Guessing games were played and then Christmas carols were sung. The liveliness or the party encouraged Santa Claus to appear ( Miss Helen Hewitt), who distributed the gifts among the members. Dainty refreshments were serv ed by a committee headed by Mrs. Gnldie Brunn. chairman; Miss Verna Cnruthers was general chair man of the party. Keen interest is being shown in the decorations in the residential section of the city and the chili Is desirous that as many as possible take part in this contest. E. Church Will Present Cantata Directed by Mrs. Heinline The First M. E. church offers a most attractive program tor both morning and evening services tomorrow. Rev. C. A. Edwards will bring the Christmas message in ills usual force ml manner at the eleven o'clock service, his sub ject being. '"The Birthday of a King." The choir will feature Christmas carols and little Miss Patricia McClinlock will render "Luther's Cradle Hymn," in con nection with Mr. Fisher's solo "Si lent Night." The evening servico promises to he a very beautltul program for Iwenly trained voices will render Norton's canlata "His Natal Day." A variety of lovely duets, quar tettes, choruses and solos make up the musical story. Exlra num bers by Mr. Leroy Hlatt, and a Christmas lullaby by small Betty Whipple, will further enhance the program. Some of Roseburg's best known singers are members of the choir and have sung for many years under the training of Mrs. Charles S. Heinline, who is both pianist and director. Clarence H. Underwood, district deputy grand exalted ruler of the Elks lodge, and Perry O. Delap, president of (he Elks state association, were the guest visitors of the evening The regular business meeting was held during the forepart of the evening; the Lady Elks meet ing in their club rooms at the same time. Ness Surprised With Lovely Christmas Party Friday The ladies aid of Ibe Catholic church were hostesses at a lovely Christmas surprise party honoring Mis. Thomas H. Ness, on Friday afternoon at the Parish hall. A fine attendance of twenty-four were present. Tho hat was lovely with a large decorated Christmas tree. Many other special decora tions added to the attractiveness of the room. A lovely gift was pre sented to Mrs. Ness by Mrs. Ioren Miller, president, who also gave an interesting talk. Mrs. Joseph Hren nen gave a short talk later in the afternoon. A social hour was enjoyed with the exchange of gifts by the mem bers during that time.
