N. G. Menibera With Annual Affair at Myrtle Creek The Kobekah lodge No. 11, of Myrtle ( reek, enjojed their unnual J'ast Noble Craml affair at the 1. O. O. F. hall last week-end. The entertaiiinient was pro ided by ihe members? who' hao not yet gone tbioiigh all of the chairs of the lodo. Twenty-nine Hast Noble Clauds were present, three being charier members. They were all dressed the same as they were the first night, of the lodge opening. Mrs. Dale Marslerd sang "I Love You Truly." and Mi's. Caswell gave an interesting reading, "The cob ling Turkey." Two sisters, preceded by the small daughter of the vice grand, presented the three charter members with a bouquet of pink flowers tied with lovely green nia line bows. The remaining twenty six members were each given a bouquet of mistletoe and greenery. Dainty refreshments were served by tlie committee in charge. Oj. t. W. T. C. U. Members . Observe White Crusade Day on Wednesday The Roseburg W. C. T. U. met in the Women s club rooms on Wednesday afternoon with a fine attendance of members present. Mrs. Elizabettf Wills, president, presided. Mrs. S. E. Collier con ducted the devotionuls, taking as her text, the 146th Psalm, being tiie Crusade Psalm, glie spoke ol the courage of the crusade women hi the early days of the temper ance movement. The president reported a meet ing of the execulive committee, which had outlined the programs for the coming year. She also asked that the directors of the de partments have their reports ready tor next meeting and that all Christmas gifts be brought' in so that they can be sent to the Chil dren s Farm home on December 18th.. Mrs. T. B. Bu?enbark and Mrs. R. A. Busenbarli were dressed in old-fashioned costumes. The for mer gave a reading on Mrs. Hayes, wite or the former vice-president, whom she was impersonating. Mrs. Hayes was one of the first who steadfastly refused to serve wine in the white house. Mrs. R. A. Husenbark represented Mrs. Eliza Thompson, who was one of the early temperance crusaders. These two character studies were very effective und much enjoyed hy ull present. Dainty refreshments were serv ed hy the committee in charge at the close of the meeting. M. E. Church Missionary Societies Meet Jointly at Marsters Home Thursday 1 ne Home andToreign Mission ary societies of the M. E. church held a joint meeting at the love ly home of Mrs. A. C. Marsters on Thursday afternoon, with about thirty members In attendance. Tne meeting was opened by sing ing Christmas carols. Mrs. A. J. Gediles led the devotionals, which was followed by talks by Mrs. Foster Bui ner on "Yout h and Foreign Missionaries"; "Through the Telescope," by Mrs. Charles A. Edwards; vocal solo by Mrs. Don ald Matthews, accompanied by Mrs. Herbert Williams; "The Birthday of a King." Mrs. Lillian Davis gave an interesting talk on "Heart Throbs." Mrs. Herbert Williams played a piano solo en titled "The Butterfly." Mrs. J. B. Bailey told an interesting Christ mas story, which was followed by an "Imaginary Ocean Trip to Alaska and the Hawaiian Islands" which was presented by Mrs. O. M. Nichols. The program was one of the most enjoyable programs given during the entire season. AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY ACTIVITIES Umpqua unit met in regular ses sion Tuesday night, with an at tendance of sixty among whom j were several visiting past unit presidents from out of the stale, i The meeting opened with com munity singing after which inter esting reports were read. The unit hopes to win a na tional citation by reaching its quota of 2tJ!l paid up membership by December 20th. A beautiful silver pitcher was displayed which will be awarded to the unit mem ber securing the greatest number of memberships for the organiza tion by December 20th, when the drive closes. In order to keep the pitcher permanently, It must be won two consecutive years by the same member and a lively con test is jiow in progress. The hospital committee and the child welfare committee both re ported very satisfactory progress in their work. Considerable has been done for the Veterans' hos pital and the needs of several chil dren have been taken care of. Mrs. C. K. Allen, chairman of the Soldiers' Home, reported that plans are being made for a Christ mas tree and program at the home, when presents will be distributed to all World war veterans at the home. Mrs. Nathan Fullerton, Mrs. W. E. Mclntyre and Mrs. Clark Walk er were named as a committee -to purchase additional books for the Soldiers' Home library which was Instituted less than one year ago by the auxiliary. This amount represents the pro ceeds from the benefit party spon- 1 sored by the auxiliary and t;ie United Spanish American War Veterans' auxiliary. The fund was held until this time in order to study tho needs and tastes of tho veterans and to give time to as semble and catalogue all reading material which was donated. A report covering partial returns from the Red Cross roll cull indi cated that splendid worl; Ih being done this year. The first report came from Mrs. Fred Asam, chair man at Glide, and showed that 31 memberships were secured in that section. Oakland reported GO; Reedsport i:i; Glendale 26; Drain 28; and Elklon 36. Several letters of appreciation were read from those who receiv ed Thanksgiving baskets from tho unit. Mrs. Ned Dixon was appointed flower chairman to replace Mrs. Jay A. Fulcher, who asked to he relieved because of other duties. Mrs. Fulcher has taken care of this work most efficiently for several years.
