Stepping carefully nround all these objects which whirled anil lurncd and jumped In the most alarming manlier, he arrived at length at a tall steel wall. The party included V. U Cobb, J.-R. Chapman, li. L. Eddy. M. M. Miller, A. C. Seely, U. A. Cobb, Air. and Mrs. Austin of Portland. Mrs. Seaman of Portland and Mr. Capell of Spokane. Practically all of the preliminary work Is done and the sluice boxes were given their first cleaning The surface dirt, part of which had already been washed in previous operations, was , sluiced out, and gave excellent indications. Pan ning of unwashed samples near bedrock revealed very rich dirt. As two claims are located below the present work, it was decided to wash out these lower claims first, using them later as a place to deposit the tailings.
