Protesting their innocenco, th
three men await trial, nnd the hear

truth of the weird plot.

PORTLAND, Ore., Aug. 27. Po
lice Lieuteiuiut William Hreuning
has announced that he will ask the
city council for a :i0 days' leave of
absence without pay so that In
may bo off duty when the case of
Mrs. Anna Schrader, private de
tective he arrested on a charge of
assault with Intent to kill him, is
called In municipal court,
Hreuning said he believes this
move will eliminate the possibility
of embarrassing the' police depart
ment. Following her arrest Mrs.
Schrader told Hreuninji's superiors
that he had been her ardent admir
er for' more than eight years, She
declared she had not. Intended to
kill lireunlng but had merely car
ried her revolver for protection.
Breuning said she tried to shoot
him twice as he parked his car In
front of his homo last Friday. Mrs.
Schrader told police that the
weapon was accidentally dis
charged when Hreuning struggled
with her on the sidewalk after
alighting from his car.

taken from Hnn Diego to Loa An
geles to handle the Zeppelin and

Mr. Webber enlisted in the navy
July 1, and very soon afterwards
was made chief petty 01 fleer. In
his initial tests, he received an A-l,
or perfect rating. He baa just
passed the elimination testa, with
a grade of Ui, and will begin his
course of training in aviation at
once." Ho will receive bis ground
school instruction at Great Lakes,
and from there will be ou a six
months' cruise on an airplane cur
rier. His final training in war
manoeuvers will be at Pens a col a,
Florida.
