Arnold Casper, of Canyonvllle, was arrested last night at the Can- yonville dance, charged with pos session of liquor. He entered jlea of guilty and was fined J100 and given 30 days In Jail, upon ap pearance thiB morning before Jus tice of the Peace Hopkins. Sherirf Jackson, accompanied by Deputies Hoone and Dielsch, visit ed the dance last night, and ac curding to Sheriff Jackson, discov ered that Casper was selling liquor. They spotted his cache, wlilcn was located at some distance from the dance hall, and they lay in hiding near the liquur. The officers stated that a car, containing Casper and four other men, stopped at the cache, and that Casper directed one of the men where to find the liquor. This man stumbled over Deputy Dletsch and was so badly frightened that he ran Into the brush, without warning his companions. Casper, thinking that he was unable to find the liquor, came over to the cache and wus arrested. The other men, seeing the offi cers, started to drive the car away, hut Sheriff Jackson reached the machine and turned off the switch. All of the men disclaimed owner ship of the car, bul attempted to drive it away alter Casper had been arrested. The sheriff, ncv ever, refused to release the auto to anyone except the owner, and forc ed the other men to walk back to Canyonvllle, and placed the auto in a garage. It was releaseu to owner today, however. Previously Hawley relinquished the presidency of the St. Helens plant to Max Oberdorfer, manager of the plant.
