IN JAPAN
JAPAN turns its government out of office for suppressing
information to which the public fell itself entitled. That
at least is the main reason given for the downfall of the Tan
iika ministry. The incident gives added evidence of the new
day upon which Japan is gradually emerging Us people are
no longer willing to accept without question anything at all
that the government may see fit to do. They want to know.
Government in Japan has become responsible now as it
long has been in the lands of the West. Manhood suffrage,
a recent innovation, is a factor in the change that has come
over the Land of the Rising Sun. Japan still clings to the
ridiculous and outworn practice of emperor worship. That
is made possible through the religious urge. From infancy
the Japanese are taught that the emperor is divinely born.
That, too, will one day be outgrown. And meanwhile in
othetr respects the Japanese are a keen, intelligent, up and
coming people.

The Hoseburg band will give a conceit tonight.
Whether it is generally realized here or not, the Hoseburg
Municipal Hand is one of the outstanding musical organi
zations in the state.
There is a general complaint that children romping and
playing during the band concert make so much noise as to
mar the enjoyment of the concert. Thoughtful parents will
caution their little ones.

merce with a guest card which is signed by the mayor, the
chief of police and the president of the chamber. The card
invites the stranger to consider himself a guest of the city
and expresses the hope that ho will enjoy his visit. Would
not that make a fine impression on you if you visited Med-ford?

INFLAMMATION of a joint is known as arthritis. There aro
several types of the disease. I want to speak particularly about
"arthritis deformans." This is sometimes called "rheumatoid
arthritis."
In this disease there is deformity and crip
pling of the joints. Tho fingers are twisted out
of shape and other joint? of the body may be
stiff and deformed.
In general am not much impressed by hered
ity as a factor in disease. The fact is. I don't
want to believe that heredity is u matter of tre
mendous importance. My soul rebels against a

istry of the body it is very likely we will know

Jenkins is no slouch himself.
Reckon he belongs right in Hose
burg. Perhaps he is the editor. 1
see he takes a rap at Hiisbane. 1

but sometimes 1, too, think ho may
