- court of St. James's and has been much feted. There is gos
sip that her engat;iment to the I'.ritixh heir-apparent is soon
'lo he announced. The princess is 19 years old.
; If there is to be such a match it is likely that the prin
cipal parties lo it will be suiting their own desires to the ex
igencies of royal politics, but that need not dampen the pro
spect unduly in the public view. Any alliance that Wale:
. may contract will be a popular alliance, lor he is the world's
most human and popular royally. Ingrid's pictures show
very comely person and incidents are not lacking to indicate
that she is a regular girl, besides, as for instance her recent
insistence upon taking two airplane flights over London.
It is said, too, that she rides well. Maybe she can teach the
prince.
1'rincess Ingrid is her lather's daughter by his first
wife, who was Princess Margaret Victoria, daughter of the
Duke of Coiiiiaught and cousin of King George, who died
in 1920.
The Prince of Wales has often been scheduled by the
gossips for matrimony and the gossips have always been
wrong. Maybe they are wrong again, but the reports in the
present instance carry a plausibility that has on previous
" occasions been less marked.

. The slickers arc on wheels now. Good weather and
twenty-five dollars with which to buy an old car starts the
annual crop of doorbell ringers. Advice against them is a
waste of words perhaps, but here it is. The safest thing
to do if you are called on by a slick salesman for anything is
to say "No." If what he has for sale appeals to you, take
his name and address, lleniember that one of the very easiest
things to do is buy something. Nine times out of ten you
can get the same article at your local store. Your local
llnordiant Is there to appeal to if the purchase is not satis
'factory but the slicker is gone. This same ndvicc applies
Mia well to business houses. Almost daily some sort of sales
Miian calls. Sometimes several in the same day. Merchants
"ind other business people are solicited by itinerant sales
men of advertising schemes, fake auto insurance clubs, col
lection services and what not. Nearly everything sold by
such travelers is obtainable locally, liny at home.

their families will assemble at a great poultrymen's picnic in

mains of A. S. Kouns, who died
suddenly at I'orliand last Tuesday,
