APRIL 2 An offering which will probably rank as one oi the outstanding features ol the Local musical season is the concerts to be given here by tbe world famous Agreneva Slav- iansky Royal Russian Choir which will appear at the Antlers Theater Tuesday, April 2. Under the direction of Mine. Ar- reueva Slaviansky, daughter of Prince DemJtro Agreneva-Slav iansky, who founded the choir In 1840, the group of thirty singers will visit "here enroute to New York City, where they are to give their metropolitan debut at the Steinway hall next month. ' The choir is coming direct from Japan where they were invited by the Japanese government as a special entertainment for the enthronement ceremony. They stepped off a week in Honolulu, and were acclaimed as the gieatet singing organization that Honolulu has ever heard. So big was the demand for seats in Honolulu, that they were forced tc give matinees almost every day, and even then Honolulu's biggest theater, was not large euough to accommodate the eager throngs. Although the choir is famous for its choiul harmony, their work is nut confined to singing. They are very versatile, a dozen dancers are included la the choir and a groupe of ten furnish music oa the bal alaika, a queer uhapeJ, but beauti ful sounding stringed instrument. The organization; of the choir dates back to 1840, when Prince Deiultro was commissioned by the Russian czar to draft 100 of the nation's best siugers from the Imperial opera house and conserva tory to foim a choir. An interesting feature of the present choir, a continuation of the original, Is that many of Its memb ers have been affiliated with the organization from childhood, many of them being direct descendants of members of the original 1S40 choir. With it are still some of the mem bers who made an American tour in the early eighties, nt which time the choir appeared in concert at the "White House shortly before President Garfield was assassl- -nted. 'hen Prince Demltro died in l'J(3, the leadership of the choir was taken over by his daughter Margaret, who will appear here per sonally with the choir, as its direc tor.
