Z Probably the real reason for all of this is that we are lazy.

suppress crime and bring criminals to justice. Instead, we
go after the petty violators. Such arrests salve our con
science and help us to forget that this great nation of super
efficiency has reached new depths of inefficiency in the
matter of law enforcement and civic order.

Fred Asher, foimer city marshal,
was ucquitted today or a charge
of second decree murder In con
nection with I lie fatal shooting of
w ill lam Litch, last Sepiembtfr.
The Jury deliberated for twelve
Itotirs. Asher fired un-3n Lltch's
automobile when It failed to stop
upon his order. One of the bullets
struck leona Shetwood who was
riding with Lltrh.
The defense contended that
Asher, who was c.ty mar-mal ut
the time of the shooting, shot at
the tires of the automobile as it
sped away, and did not aim at the
occupants.
Asher said he had reason to be
lieve the automobile contained i
liquor. He ordered Litch to stop, j
lie said, but Litch sped on.
