Ferry Capacity Increased According to tho Port Umpq.ua Courier a double scow has been provided for ferry service at Scotlsburg. This addition was made necessary by the increased traffic with the completion of the Roosevelt highway. . Bell, the past week, left Sunday for Cordova, Alaska, to join Mr. Baker. They were ac companied on the Hip by Mr. and Mrs. Bell, who will visit lu Seattle until the end of the week, making the Journey, by motor. Returns From Trip George E, La n gen berg and nephew, Louis Laugenberg, return ed yesterday from an automobile trip to Crater and Diamond lakes. They traversed the central Ore gon highway and returned by way of i tie McKenzIe pass. Fishing in the lakes and streams on the route of their journey is reported very poor. Returning Home Tuesday Dr. and Mrs. B. U. Shoemaker and family and Mr. and Mrs. Sam J. Shoemaker and family are ex pected home Tuesday. They have been enjoying a vacation and vis ited at Bandon for a week, taking tho trip ' from there over the Roosevelt highway to Crescent City, Grants Pass and the Oregon Caves. Mr, Park Improving Friends of Mr. and Mrs. T. N. Park, formerly of tills city,' will be glad to learn that Mr. Park, who is still in the Southern Pa cific hospital in San Francisco, is making very satisfactory progress toward recovery. Mr. Park suf fered a paralytic stroke some time ago. It is uncertain how soon he will be able to leave the hospital. Joined Family Here Harry Black joined his family hore over the week-end and visit ed at the R. L. Whipple home. Mrs. Black and son, Barton, came from Hood River last week and spent several days with her sister, Mrs. Whipple. The family turned home Sunday. Mr. Black Is with Hearty Inc. and has been in , Med ford on burunpsfl. Overturns Car Ralph Bell, Edenbower man, was uninjured when his car turned over In the ditch after It skidded in the graveled road near his home over the week-end. The machine was badly damngd. Relatives Visited Mr. and Mrs. II. U. Nolan, en route to their home in Los Angeles from Portland, are here visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Carl Lundeen. Mr. Nolan Is a brother of Mrs. Lun dueii. . Returns to City George Protzman, who has been residing in northern California and points In southern Oregon for the past two years, has returned to Roseburg to make his home. Chambers of the Chambers Motor company drove the Harry Pargeter car, which jjvna in an auto accident last week, to Portland Saturday to be repaired, and is returning here with a new car for local delivery. Starting His Fourth Year "Doc" Martin, special merchants' police for this city, is starting on his fourth year of service today. During the time he has served the business houses there have been few robberieB of any consequence, evi dence that he has kept a clone watch on things generally .after nightfall and has carried out his duties in a faithful manner. ODD FELLOWS AT BAY REPORT A FINE MEETING The Southwestern Oregon I. O. j O. F. association annual conven-i tion und picnic at Reedsport and ! Winchester Bay over the week-end was one of the finest meetings of its kind, according tothosu who participated from Roseburg and who returned home Sunday even ing. Approximately .75 local people went to the coast for the meet ing and the Myrtla Creek I. O. O. F. band and a large delegation from that place also were present. The association, which is made up of the lodges of Coos, Curry and Western Douglas, meets annually. Phlletnrlan lodge of Roseburg con ferred the first degree on a class of candidates at Reedsport Satur day night, after which the business session of the, association was held. Sunday an all day picnic was hold at the bay, a large basket din ner being served at noon. Many of the people went to Winchester bay and camped Saturday night while others remained at Reedsport, and joined them there for Sunny. Brigadier (eneral W. E3. Wads worth and Brigadier General H. Two hun dred more firefighters were Bent today to help stem a flood of flame wbicb was advancing on the town of Illanchard, Idaho, In the vicinity or Spirit lake. It was about five miles from the town, which Includes 2110 resldonts, this morning, after having burned some 10 square milos ot territory. The only buildings reported de stroyed were those of the Gene Snook logging camp, which was abandoned when efforts of fire fighters proved unavailing to save It. The camp supplies were sav ed. A fire two miles west of Priest river, Idaho, was confined today to a smalt area, with 20 men holding It in check. A man declared to have been setting this fire was pursued but made his escnpe. Some concern was felt lest the fire reach a powder magazine be tween It and the town ot Priest Itlver, but It was believed to be In control unless a wind sprang up.
