The project consists of grading about five miles in the Drew sec tion, according to Road master Frear, at a cost of about $30,000. half of which sum is furnished by the federal bureau of public roads and the balance is special tax, county money and O. & C. land grant tax refund. The road Is of Importance to the government as it penetrates forest reserves, and when It is completed through to Trail on the Crater Lake road. It will prove a snvlng of some 80 miles for lake bound tourists, who now go In via Medford. This road has another excellent feature In that there will bo but one divide to cross, whore now the traveller crosses four divides between Canyon ville and Grants Pass. The new road will be 20 feet wide and is following a la tor sur vey than that made twelve years a 140, the new survey eliminating many high wades. AIRPORT NEAR GLENDALE SOON -. And a bunch of Dem ocrats whd will hate to vote for Al Smith on account of his Tam many connections, bis wet record or his religion. One big hnrfdicap for such a movement is the fact that Hoover and Smith, assuming their nomin ations, will each appeal to large groups of Independent voters. Both happen to be men of ability and considerable- popularity. , ; Bigotry Has No Appeal But tho worst handicap "is Hef- lin. Any movement of anti-Smith Democrats to organize another po litical party will be damned from the start as inspired by religious bigotry. Self-respecting persons will keep out- of it. Anyway, organizing a perma- uent third party would bo a gigan tic task, it would take lota of money and, even more important iy, lots of organization. It would need politicians and it wouldn't have any, because it couldn't promise any Jobs for a long time. Thu paving contract called .tor 000 feet of Content pavement. 20 foot wide, extending from the end of the pavement which enters the city from the north, to the steel bridge til pro is 200 feet of county loud to the city limits which will ho paved t soma later date. The new cement is 10 feet wide and will bo open to traffic In about a month, when the crew will return and lay the oilier width. This road, known as" market road 12, Is of primary Importance to this section, for not only is It the connecting link between this city and the Pacific highway, but over It all lumber from tho small mills located up Cow Crock Is trucked to tho city for Bhlpment by rail.
