READY FOR Kansas City is preparing to spend half a million dol lars on, a municipal deck and terminal facilities, in prepara tion for the establishment of a government barge line on tho Missouri river. This venture doubtless will prove a good one, not only for Kansas City and neighboring cities,, but even for the railroads although some railroad men have boon wondering if the barge lino will not take away some of. their business.- The other government barge lines have helped tho railroads. iiiey have done this not only by act ing as "feeders" for rail center, but by promoting general prosperity and enhancing tlie mo)timciit of goods. The rail roads need not fear this latest development. ; o ' ( ' TWO CREWS ON THE S-1 The submarine S-'l, which rested on the bottom of the sen off Providence, Mass., for three months, a temporary tomb for her entire crew, has been repaired and is once more afloat, ready lo go back into service. One rather im agines thai the members of the crew will have to be men of iron nerves. Tho submarine is, of course, as safe as any other now yet a man with too much imagination might easily get the creeps serving aboard it. Imagine curling up in a bunk and meditating that that very bed stayed under wa ter for three ninths, with a lifeless sailor stretched out on it! The S-l must carry a crew of ghosts in addition to her regular complement. Let's hope that the sailors will bo able to ignore them, COMING EVENTS Cut out this list of dales of outstanding events for the yenr nnd keep it in your pocket for handy reference.
