They have admitted that they were not 'hiarrled : although . poslug as man and wife. S-Od o PLAN TO SELL- . : BLOCK HITS SNAG , PORTLAND. Ore., Dec. 10. A plan by' the' federal government lo sell a block Jn the heart of Port land now occupied by the old post office ror $1,750,000 struck a snag today when county officials discov ered that the block had been deed- i ed to the city in 1S62 for public Purposes. The block was sold by the rliy to the government in 1887 for $20, 000 for erection of the post office. District Attorney Stanley Myers said the government was morally, if not legally hound to re-sell tne block back to the city for tho pur chase price plus reasonable inter est if the present building Is aban doned. The government's plan con templated use of the $1,750,000 to be derived from the sale of the ) block In buying a new site and erecting a federal office building here. The block was deeded to the city hy W. W. Chapman, David H. Lounsdale and Stephen Coffin, who also donated a number of park blocks in the heart of tho city. Mrs. L. L.
