'' ' '- '- I : , : Z Seeing the federal income tax gradually being reduced, the average person asks when the state county, and city and town taxes are going to come down. The average of these taxes js probably as high as it was five years ago, and very likely higher. The people want improved schools and roads, and it coats money for police forces to pursue criminals and regulate automobile traffic. The average citizen has got to follow the affairs of his state aud city a. good-dcn.1 closer than he does now, to help on movements for lower taxes in these departments of government. They heard his loud and raucous cry across the field and hill, and homeward made their trotters fly, to sip the sparkling swill. The man who called them is the champ of all tho calling host; he made competitors decamp, he is our pride and boast. To him trophies neat and trim; oh, is there one who has not felt a swelling pride in him? His throat's equipped with wheels and cogs that round each other play, and when he rears up. calling hogs, they hear him versts away. His technique is exceeding fine and makes the hogs rejoice, and far across the county line they hear and rivals sometimes deemed that they primed themsolvcs and bing yell. As she u tinted to leave the room, he pointed a pistol at her bead. She turned and jump ed for blm, trying to take the gun away irora, mm. it went off and killed her.. Then the muu killed himself, - , : When that woman was standing there looking Into, the muzzle of tbe pistol held by her angry and excited hiuibaQd, it was an exceed ingly opportune moment for Her to work the , Boft answer overtime. Probably bad she. cooed something soothing, bad she talked somewhat as she had talked when be fell In love with her and asked tbe privil ege of paying her bills for life, the Chances are that she and be both would be alive today. It isn't bravery that induces one to jump for the fellow who is hold ing a gun on one. It 1b foolishness. The - toughigi alned, thick-skinned man-killer of the wooly Wild West didn t get brash with the man who bad bim covered ; be didn't take any liberties with the chap who had the drop on him, -'Some people have the idea that it is brave to llaregard danger. Uncle Sam didn't look at it that way during the World war. Soldiers who unnecessarily risked their lives were disciplined for so doing. . There, is a vast difference be tween i bravery and recklessness. The man- who runs bis car 50 or 60 miles an hour on a slippery road isn't brave he's a hair-brained idiot. Ask him to go and help nurse the people of a plague-Infest ed city, and he'll run like a rabbit peppered with birdshot. Tne woman wno tried to take tne gun away from her angry and ex cited husband wasn't brave enough tq love with him, and play the game.; It takes real.
