"HO INSPIRATION." .'. A lady was recently asked .lhe schools in her. home town, Jocated at some little distance from here. "No inspiration," slie remarked. She went on to say that though the teachers ' seemed to be painstaking and tried to be thorough, they - Hacked the gift of waking their pupils up and creating en t thiuiasn. People who try to manage schools, churches, so-Z- cleties, clubs, etc., have quite a problem to solve in the effort Z '.to inspire their pupils or associates and followers. It can't I "be done merely by windy talk. If superficial people get up I and try to start a "Hurrah boys" movement without showing ; any reasons why the boys should hurrah, they will not do ; 'Jnuch cheering. The gift for inspiring enthusiasm has to be j based on a certain foundation of fact, A quiet teacher may ; 'accomplish it better than a vociferous one. The one who ; has this power will be likely to go into a school and tell her ; boys and girls bow this or that young person has gone out - into the world in the past, and has achieved great things. Then she will perhaps tell them that they can do some of the I same things, and it is up to them. Normal young people, ' hearing such talk as that, usually want to make good. The I same thing is true in directing older people. . Enthusiasm is ; not aroused merely by voluble talk, but by placing before the ; people the simple effective facta of things-that are being done in the world. When people hear about those things, ' they feel a desire to do the same. Good inspirational work ; needs a stamp of novelty. The ideas that were excellent to ; day may have lost their force by tomorrow or next year. It ; takes an originating mind to arouse enthusiasm, which shall : constantly be putting its ideas in new form to meet the needs ; of the times. ' ' , . - ; ;.. . o -;.' . '.
