ROSEBURG NEWS-REVIEW. SATURDAY. DECEMBER 12. 1925. THSTS MAIL EARLY IS SLOGAN OF POST OFFICE DEPT. (Continued from Page 1.) package! often receive very rough treatment." and ' this should be borne in rclnd when preparing ounaies ror snipment. One new ruling of the nost office department Insures prompt hand ling and deliver? of parcel post packages. 'A J5-cent handling stamp la provided, which gives the pack age the same attention as first class mall matter. All trains do not handle parcel post, but all mall trains take first class mail. A hand ling stamp, therefore, insures the aame prompt and careful handling of packages that is given first class mall. In addition to the handling tamp a special delivery stamp will Insure Immediate delivery of the package to the person to whom it la addressed. A 10-cent charge is made for special delivery on pack- agea up to 2 pounds, 15 cents for packages up to 10 pounds and 20 cents for packages over 10 pounds. It Is advised by post office em ployees and officials, that all val uable packages should be injured. Insurance, however, can be collect ed only when packages are proper ly packed and made ready for ship ment, so that great care must be taken in preparing any package for the mails. Local employes report that there is seldom a mallbag carrying Christmas packaeea arrives with out having In It several broken parcels from which candles, toys, or other articles are released to become hopelessly mixed with the other articles in the bag. In view of all conditions It plain ly behooves Christmas givers to send their mall through the post office as quickly as possible In or der that it may reach the proper destination promptly and In a safe condition.
