The House Wsys and Means commit tee derided today to make the re duction it has voted In passenger auto taxes effective 30 days after enactment of the new revenue bill and to provide for rebate to auto dealers of the difference between the old and new levies on all cars in their hands at the end of this period. The committee rescinded Its pro posal to allow a retroactive re duction In the Inheritance taxes. The provision was taken from the tax reduction bill after the treasury had estimated It would mean a loss of $70,000,000 in revenue, rather than 120.000. 000 as originally estimated. The committees decision for lower Inheritance rates In future years remains unchanged. The action on automobile taxes was based on an agreement reach ed between the committee and Representatives of practically all national automobile manufactur ing concern, who pledged them selves not to ask for repeal of the tax on passenger automobile cars, which has been cut from five to three per cent. The rebste in dealers was sought because, when the law goes Into effect, they will have on hand a numbr of cars on which the five per cent tsx will hsve been paid. The Franco-American expedition In the Sa hara, beaded by Count Byron Kubn de Prorok. has disinterred the skel eton of a personage burled In the tomb of Tim Hlnan, the legendary goddess and ancestress of the Tu nings, says a dispatch today to the New York Times from Abalessa. The bones of a well built person about six feet In height, whose fine features resemble those of present day Tuareg nobles, were found resting on an elaborate couch sunk In solid rock, the dispatch stated. This was surrounded by bags of grain, grapes and dates, food for the Journey Into the outer world. The scientists were unable to determine whether the bones were those of a man or woman, but the natives were convinced they were those of Tib Hlnan herself. The skull had feminine charac teristics, but the body bones were lepparently of a masculine type. It thought possible that the exne idltlon has found the body of the ancient heroine who Is the root and i whole structure of Tuaregarian I mythology. The weapons nsuallv burled with i persons of high rank were not I found. Osrmenls of a dignitary were found piled In an anteroom I of the burial chamber. Beads, garnets, and objects of gold and silver were dug no In the mound (covering the skeleton. The beds, whlrh were similar to those of the third and fourth cen turies found In the teronle of Tanlt at Carthage, gave the first clue to ithe date of the tomb. I Massive bracelets on the arms 'of the skeleton were believed to hfi of gold snd silver alloved with another metal, nrnbahly antimony, which was used by the Carthagin ians tn give gold snd silver Jewel ry additional weight and hardness.
