Cook2to5 minutes.ohlyJ . x ... : LASTIN GPEACE OF EUROPE NOW UNDER PLEDGE (Continued from Page 1.) 1 nodded their heads In approval at each other, and then at their Ger man colleague. When the pact had been signed Secretary Chamberlain rose and handed Chancellor Luther the allied Interpretation of Article XII of the League of Nations cove nant, taking cognisance of Ger many's position as a disarmed na tion and paving the way for her entry into the League. Again the movie cameras ground out their hlstorlo pictorial records and again the representatives of the signatory nations spoke in turn, this time to declare that their governments would forever fulfill the obligations to which they bad lust subscribed. Peace Common Sentiment. ; The British premier, who was the only ono to employ the English language, was visibly moved when ho announced that his government welcomed the treaty ot Locarno. Oreat Britain, ho added, was cer tain that the treaty would not dis appoint the hopes of the world In laying the foundation for that peace which had so long been sought- His sentiment was that of the other speakers. Dr. Strese nvann delivered bis remarks with vigor and conviction. The only del egate to raise his -voire above con versational tone, he repeatedly struck the table as he made his declarations. Nothing, he said, would serve greater purpose In these days of difficulty than the spirit of good will wblch the treaty evoked. He looked to the future and fruition of the work they had done with great hope. Premier Ilrland of Prance, In a solemn voice, declared there was not a person in the world who was not Interested in the proceedings of the day. "I can sea across the table tho German chancellor," he said, "and 1 am sure I can tell him that 1 have remained a good Frenchman Just as be in coming here has remained a good German but both of us are Europeans." Milestone In History. LONDON. Dec. 1. After the Lo carno ceremony in the foreign of fice today Chancellor Luther of Germany gave the Associated Press this statement: "This day of the signing of the Locarno pact Is a milestone in the history of European nations. It shows the will of all the partners to the treaty to restore peace. Re adjustment to normal economic and political relations will be the ultimate outcome of our endeavors. "I consider that this pact la the first step, but a decisive one, in that direction. The pacification of the world and In its wake the pros perity of nations Is the final aim. There are still obstacles to over come but we are at last so far ad vanced that I can say with assur ance the goal is altalnable." Cook with gas.
