FURNITURE IS HERE Fourth and Fifth Floors Now Ready Dining Room to Open in Few Days. the Roue Investment company ho-1 tel at the corner of Sheridan, and Lane streets, preparatory to the formal opening, which la expected to occur about the flrat of the month. The fourth and fifth floors are now completely furnished and are being occupied, while die fur niture Is all on hand for the other floors and will be Installed as rap Idly as possible. The building is the only com pletely fireproof hotel structure In southern Oregon, the only combust ible material entering Into Its con struction being the window and door frames. The floors and walls are all of poured concrete. The partitions are of hollow gypsum plaster blocks, while the plaster is placed over steel lath. The building is five stories In height and has full basement. The ground floor accommodates the lobby, two store buildings, kitchen and dining room, while the four upper floors each hare fifteen sleeping rooms. Each guest room has elthes pri vate or communicating bath, while each has an individual wash room. The hollow plaster partitions and the heavy concrete floors, the lat ter padded with carpet, make the building practically soundproof. The rooms are beautifully fur nished, the bedroom seta being of walnut, each decorated with sten ciled rose designs. The rose fea ture is carried out In the curtains also. An automatic lift provides rapid elevator service for the guests. Ths elevator Is of the latest automatic type, safe and foolproof. It not only gives prompt service but does away with the necessity of maintaining an elevator boy. On the lower floor there aro two store buildings, one at the corner of Stephens and Lane streets ane the other on Lane street. The cor ner store has not yet been leased, but the other will bo occupied by a barber shop operated by J. E. rJ HI. The management has secured O. W. NeelandH and Mrs. Sadie Ris ley to operate the kitchen ami din ing room. Mr. Neelands was for mer chef at the Roosevelt hotel In Portland, and has been employed in some of the leading restaurants and hotels of the coast, having a wide reputation for his ability In the Culinary lino. Mrs. Klsley Is ex perienced in the operation of a din ing room and will have full charge of that department. . The dining room will be open In a few da) a. The hotel will be under the man agement of George E. Smith, presi dent of the Rose Investment com pany, which has constructed the building. The company is comKa ed of Mr. Smith, Mlllon Keyser, vice president and L. W. Metzger, secretory and treasurer. Although the fourth and fllln floors are already being used for the accommodation of gucste, the formal opening will not take place for a short time, but will probably occur about the first of the month. Wllford Allen, of Grants Pass, was elected president of the Ore gon Irrigation congress at the concluding session of the annual meeting here last night. He de feated James M. Kyle, of Stsn fleld, who has been president for two years. The voto was Allen 167, Kyle 161. W. T. Power, of Oregon Agricultural College, was elected secretary, succeeding Wal ter E. Meacham. A resolution was adopted urg ing the state securities commis sion to require every district whose Interest on bonds has been guarsnteed by the state to em ploy a colonisation agent. Rhea Luper. state engineer, declared that only 3600 families would be required to complete seltlemout of evefy district.
