Creek, about two miles up the
stream from the newly constructed
road up the North Umpqua river.
The vein is 1200 feet wide, has
been traced to a depth of nearly
40 feet, and has been uncovered
for more than 600 feet In length.
How much exists has not been de
termined. The great value of this
vein may be understood wben It Is
known that only recently a vein 18
Inches in width of the same ma-
terlal In Washington stale sold for

The product assays 63 60 per cent
silica. 18.71 per cent allumlna: .71

10 per cent moisture.
Although used chiefly for pot
tery the product la also used for
the basis of the now famous beauty
clay, and also baa remarkable
cleansing and medicinal proper
ties, exercising a drawing and
softening anion on the skin. It Is
used for modelling, sculpturing and
many olher purpoaca, and la valu
ed at more than 1500 per ton.
The claim held by the local peo
ple Is ao aiiuated that It can be
reached with little difficulty. A
road can be constructed le it at a
moderate cost, and the mineral
hauled out In motor trucks.
It Is practically In a pure slate,
showing up 87 per cent pure on
tests.
The mineral is absolutely free

it can then be mixed wilh water
