Arleigh Herron's Hollywood Five Free Camp Ground FURNISHED CABINS FOR RENT Oregon may be the home of wild turkeys if experiments now being carried on at the came farms re sult successfully. Several yearn ago an effort wan made to plant wild turkeys In Oregon, but whh not followed up to a point to de termine whether or not the birds were given sufficient advantage necessary for them to thrive In their new habitat. Several districts of Oregon Heein favorable climati cally and topographically. be'sides having an abundance of food suit able to these birds. The wild turkey Is nothing more or less than a member of the pheasant family, and an earnest ef fort will be made at this time to determine whether or not they can really be propagated In Oregon. A Bhlpment of three dozen eggs has been received from Ohio and placed at the game farms near Ku- DANCE AT OLALLA HALL , Saturday Nite July 18 CARD OF THANKS Wo wish to thank our friends and relatives of Melrose and vloln 1 lly and of Coles Valley for their kindly assistance and beautiful floral orterlnxH at the burial of our beloved friend, Soloman C. This shipment 1 of eggs will be followed by other egg allotments and with several , palm of birds to be used In the exierinient. The rearing and ' planting of a few birds in certain , localities la not considered giving 1 (hem a fair chance. U ! the .- ject of the game commission at j this lime to continue thHr planting of these birds until it is determined Hheher or not they will adapt themselves to Oregon conditions. Moose have been successfully planted In Oregon from the Alas kan coast and have developed In to wonderful specimens. The ring necked pheasant has taken hold to such an extent in the slate tnat It Is now the premier bird for up land shooting. The .Hungarian partridge, another imported bird. Is a close second, and there Is no reason why the wild turkey shouh! not also thrive at certain well se lected points. The Hose burg Rod and Gun club Is vitally interested in the experi ment which the game commission is making, Douglas county is the section of the state bent fitted, cli matically and in all other respects, to successfully raise wild turkeys, it is believed. Us many thous ands of acres of upland range af ford fine feeding grounds, while its mild temperatures would be con ducive to the growth of the young fowls. Douglas county is the premier county for domestic turkeys, which grow here with tint least care and attention of any place in' the country and reach the best size and quality. As conditions for growth are practically the same between the domestic and wild fowl, there is no reason why the wild turkey should not prosper In Ikmglas; county and become a valuable as set to the sporting resources of this county, already noted for its wild life. The Rod and Gun club has been quite active in fostering this exper iment and when the birds are ready to be released, will endavor to havo a large number of them brought to Douglas county. The club will endeavor to see that the birds are properly protected and will try to keep a check on them to see the measure of success that attends the experiment. I "lAmthe'Boss? il i :f ; - 1 .... PTione 1H9-T STATE MONOPOLY OF SUGAR AND TEA PROPOSED BY PERSIA BAGDAD, July 16. Decision of the Persian government to put through a bill to empower It to take over the import and Bale of tea and munir In Persia as a slate monopoly has aroused considerable feeling in commercial circles here. The seriousness of the matter from the local point of view may be gauged from the tact that, ex cept for cotton piece goods, a very large proportion of the consider able .re-export trade from this country to Persia consists of tea and sugar. The buying arrange ments in Europe aud India have until now remained In the hands of Itagdad middlemen, Persian mer chants not as a rule buying further afield than this city. Presumably, the Persian government Intends to make Its own arrangements In Eu rope, and to cut uot the Bagdad middleman altogether. rnone o-u How the Kiddies Love its Goodness Melo-O-Maid Ice Cream is a food you can well en courage them to eat during the summer months in great plenty because it is purest, most healthful, most wholesome and cooling after a hard day of romping.
